View Full Version : H.A.M.B. Newbie from Ohio
My name Chris and this forum is tits. I am in the process of building a custom 31 Ford Phaeton Lakester, old school with lots of cast finish. I can say for sure this forum is loaded with knowledge that I don't have but can definitely use. I will post pics as the build goes along if folks are interested. Thanks for opportunity to participate and learn.
Go Bucks!

OK, for pics you can check out http://www.gnjautos.com/FordPhaeton/ and for a description:
It's is an all steel Model A, 2 Door, Phaeton body. Built from 4 Door Sedan body, top was cut off, rear doors were filled and rear body section was reworked. Convertible window stanchions were welded in place. Chopped steel Carson style top was hand fabricated. Body has been stripped to bare metal, finished and primed with Epoxy. Doors were suicided with Wescott hinges. Dash is from 64 Ford Galaxy ( shortened 2 Feet). Lower rear body beltline is a 47 Ford Rear bumper. Taillights are frenched 49 Ford. Hood top is louvered and has been grafted into radiator shell, and works as tilt front end. Hood sides bolt down stationary, or can be left off. Has Tribar headlights.
Chassis is made from 2X3 boxed tubing, built on a jig, z'd 8" in rear with a lowered front cross member. Motor mounts and transmission cross member are installed.Transmission cross member drops out. 32 style rear rails and poly tank. Car is set up for Ford small block and has lake pipes into side pipes. Rear end is Ford 9", 31 splined axles and 3rd member. Gear ratio is 2:70. Rear suspension is radius rods and transverse spring. Front suspension is 40 Ford split wishbone, juice brakes and transverse spring. Steering is 68 Mustang box , push pull traditional setup. Shocks in rear are gas, front shocks are not attached but are Speedway friction shocks. Brake master cylinder assembly is in place and came from Speedway. Hard lines have not been run. Wheels and Tires are Big and Littles on Red steelies with 49 Hubcaps.
Interior is bare bones. Plywood interior panels have been flat blacked to match exterior. Red vinyl Mustang bucket seats. Interior door handles are 49 Ford. Gauges are older VDO. Steering column is Chevy tilt and had shifter on it. Shifter has been removed and turned into hood latch mechanism.
Lots of plans but near the top is replacing the chevy tilt column with a Ford tilt column. Going for an all Ford, traditional lake style build with no billet and lots of cast. I'll try to keep posting progress as time permits. Thanks for your interest.

Welcome from Wadsworth, Ohio-just outside Akron. And yes, Go Bucks! (I've got two sons going to school there!)
Good luck on your A, I'm about to start on a '30 A Coupe myself.
