I was hunting for a replacement for my Focus wagon (too small now). I had it narrowed down between a 3 row '99 Expedition and a 3 row '97 Suburban. Price was the same, colors both on the acceptable pallet. Mileage was simailar. The kicker? Whoever had the Expedition was a smoker and the wife didn't like the ciggy burn on the front seat, neither did I. I never thought I would be saying this; I bought a Chevrolet.
Looks just like this...

I'm sure you could be helped with a good twelve step program. The world needs ditch diggers and Chevy owners.

I'd like to thank Californians for being the laughing stock of the country. It takes a lot of pressure off us smoothie-running, visored Floridians.

Ahh, I'm not alone! This Ford mechanic bought a Suburban last spring instead of an Expedition (no 5.4 head gasket probs with the Chebby). My family still won't tell our friends.

that should tell you something if the chevy is 2 years older and still worth the same amount as the newer ford.

El Cab,
Those burbs like to go thru front brakes.Check em as soon as you can. Also fuel filter every 20 thou. My buddie just replaced our fuel pump and filter and is a chev mechanic at dealership.

Good luck, I just sold my '92 Burb. I had it for 4 1/2 years and it was, quite literally, the biggest f'g pile on the road. I figured that over the 4.5 years of ownership I averaged about $200 a month in repairs, and that was with parts a cost, not retail. It was endless. I could have had a new one for the repair bills + loan payment. After I had to have it towed three times in one week I decided I'd had enough. Never felt so good to unload a car, and I've had a bunch of them. I have to say however, in it's defence, that the 350 was essentially bulletbroof. It had 195,000 on it and didn't burn much oil, no smoke, and ran great until the distributor crapped (one of the tows). It was the rest of the rig that fell apart around the engine, over and over and over.... I replaced everything but the paint. I'm just hoping the '02 Tahoe I traded it with won't be as much of a lemon. Time will tell.

Mike,
Yeah, we are patching things up. Found God again. Getting happier...
I have my own garage now and I will be moving my '27 T project there real soon. As soon as I clear out the movin' in shit that is currently stored there. What's cool is that the old lady can't park the Suburban in there to save her life. That means the Galaxie will be able to stay inside AND I can set up the other side of the garage for the T. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif I still drink and party like a mad man, I just can't (won't) chase women now. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I am a Ford guy to the core...raised in a blue-collar Ford household...I currently own 5, But 2 of my 7 rides are Chevys. Chevy made the best trucks between 1971-1986. Period. Explain to me why I see so many of them on the road...still...Ford never got their ignitions straightened out until 90 something, and they always seemed to be under-powered. (The other is the 96 impala SS..I don't think I need to say more when it comes to a hual ass AFFORDABLE grocery getter. Sure, I'd love a new Marauder, but at 40 large, who can afford one? I can't!) http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

for what it worth to you ford guys buying chevy's
yes change the fuel filter every 20 tho' or twice a year in area's where they use oxygenated fuel in the winter months,, they clog easily,, and put stress on the fuel pumps... also try to keep more that a quarter of a tank will help fuel pump life.. the new pumps come as as complete unit, with tank sender and all and are very expensive, and usually a dealer only item.
change the spark plugs at 75 thou' use double platinum plugs, they last longer, if you dont you will burn the dist cap, which is not that bad, but you will find one day a miss, change the bad cap,, runs fine only to have a new cap burnt a few miles down the road.. and if left go far enough the coil is the next thing to arc out...
been replaceing a rash of caps, rotor and plugs lately for my customers,,, one that made 137,000 miles in a delivery truck!! on original cap, rotor and plugs,, you wouldnt believe the gaps.
another thing that will arc out is the coil wire to the dist, if the plugs get to far out..
just a few notes for your files..

I own a 66 Ford Club Wagon, 61 Ford Falcon and 32 Ford truck project, and I recently shopped for a Ranger. I bought a Dodge Dakota instead. I pulled my hair out trying to get several Ford dealers to sell me a 4.0 Ranger, but no one had one. I was ready to order one, but the salesman ran late with an appointment, so to kill time I crossed the street to the Dodge dealer. Itestdrove and loved the Dakota -- 4.7 engine, bigger cab, and much better looking IMO, so I bought it two days later. My Ford saleman asked where I had been and I showed him the Dodge brochure.

The only other GM product I ever owned was a triple burgundy '82 SDV, I loved it and the 4.1 aluminium V8 lasted to 168K before I gave it to my little brother and he killed it through abuse cosmetically. Last I heard it was seen on the streets of Fayettenam, NC. It was pampered until I gave it away, I loved that car.
The Expedition I was looking at had 10K more miles on it and the cigarette burns. I did not doubt the reliability of either. I'm satisfied that at least workers on this side of the pond built my car and that the profits stayed here. (No, I'm not trying to start that argument again.) I am selling the Golden Breadbox (2000 Focus wagon) as soon as possible.
Save for the two American built Hondas and the short lived misery of owning a '85 Volvo 240 wagon, all of my cars have been Fords and I have not been disappointed until I had to deal with ignition switch problems with the Focus, I'm still pissed at Ford for that.

El C, welcome to the dark side, I see it is a 4wd.. So when are you ordering the lift kit and bigger tires.... will make a great tow vehicle when you need to move the 27 around for exhaust or something else...
Surprised to see who it was for.. how it works out
Here is my lastest driver.. got the lowering kit and wheels on order for it.. I know I should have spent the money on the wagon but had to have a fun driver also
Here is my lastest driver..

El C, Mike asked the questions I didn't want too. Glad to hear things are getting better with you and the Mrs.
LownLoud, member #2543, beem here like 10 months, hmmmm...
Do you know anything about El C? I'm guessing not being a newbie and all. Do you know where he came from and where he moved to or what he does for a living? Or of his excellent cross country adventure? Well some of us that have been here a long time are interested. After a couple years this place becomes more then being just about cars. There are many people here that have become good friends. And a lot of the posts show it.

That's allright, rocket, and I totally get what you were saying, thanks. Ken, I had considered a fourdoor truck but it didn't fulfill the need for more people space, hence third row. As for the lift kit, forget it. But I am thinking dual exhaust AFTER the T has what it needs.
