Well, it not new, but it is just a few weeks old. Desk Top Art Work # 79 is a rendition of Fiddyfour's Willis pickup. At least it made it to the HAMB Drags, even if the real thing broke before it left home.

Also posting a couple pictures of #78 which is a 62 Olds hurse. It also went to a HAMBer.

And #76 was a hot rod holdem poker run prize. Rudy swooped it up with the direction from Denise, or so I've heard.

Between the move, and making the Studio my full-time gig, it's been hectic, but I've developed a nervous twitch without my weekly fix of Friday Art Show...
Uptown Joe, always dig your meeting notes! Toyghoul, LOWCAB, Jimmy B and Zumo, great stuff! Sinclair, my man.... WOWZA!! Janne, just more reasons to love your stuff... Paula's violin, well, rocks, and Jigger, man, your stuff has such a cool cartoon-but-not look to it... totally original. ...and natas, man, what you do with a camera is just incredible. Do you ever take a bad pic?:D

finally got some pictures of the latest stuff i've cast. several fellas have asked about them, so the art show oughta be a good spot for the latest sculptures! first off is the group shot sitting on an ingot of aluminum 356. left to right we have the WWII US pilots, hepcat the beatnik and "curses" the mummy.

chromedRAT
09-07-2006, 11:35 PM
curses the mummy is cool as hell, i think. decided to do it while watching that recent mummy movie. i dig the mouth all agape, added some putrified flesh inside the mouth, and there's a little spider hanging out around the back of the skull. don't know what it is, but i think he's hilarious.

last of the new bunch is the WWII US pilot. used a real flight helmet to sculpt it, fully detailed. i included the headset and sculpted its cord with a little bit of "wrap" to look like cloth tape. it's torn at the bottom of the skull and frayed wire shows. goggles are authentic, and my favorite part of this is the "army air forces" stamp on the top. it is about twice as large as it would be in perfect scale, but given that it's about 3/8" on this knob, man, i really couldn't sculpt it any smaller! on the tan helmet, it is black and i painted it white on the brown version to match the real articles. couldn't decide which i wanted so i decided to do two versions, tan to represent the cotton cloth helmets for warm weather flying and dark brown for the sheepskin insulated winter helmets. sorta like the mummies, i liked both so i'll probably keep doing both!

thanks fellas! some killer artwork on here. spent, dig your style, man. it's like a blend of "traditional" pinstriping and art deco illustration. really unique, really cool. those panels are cool. i pour aluminum 356, pretty general casting alloy i'm told. it seems to work pretty well and be reasonably strong. about the only things that i have seen that are brittle are the chin straps on the WWI pilots i have done. every pour i end up breaking one or two when knocking the ceramic off of the pieces. pretty easy to fix though.

it's hard for me to say which of the new three i have done is my favorite... i like the mummy alot because i get a kick out of his facial expression, but the WWII pilots kinda pull me in. been reading up on WWII aviation (top secret car project research!) and i think i really nailed the look and feel. anyways, they gave me the day off from school and i'm going to get ready for the big aluminum pour tomorrow.

keep the art comin, fellas!

Here's one I'm working on. It's of my boyfriend's friend, Pete, working on his truck with his dad.

Its not very clean right now, as I've scanned and printed it a couple of times (to try out different backgrounds and figure positions without having to erase everything), but the finished product should be nice.

Has anyone heard of Picasa? It's a free software download from Google. http://picasa.google.com/ Has some really cool photo editing tools. I touched up a couple pics:

FlyingP that 'Bird is awesome!

And Jigger the Hirohata looks totally cool!

So for a theme I thought i'd throw a mix of Hirohata and T-Bird. This project is underway at Hollywood Hot Rods.

P.S.S. That T'bird is beautiful; you really caught the look, man.
What medium is it rendered in?

...and believe me, THIS BABY can FLY!
I'm only posting this 'cause LoCab says it's O.K. and he's got credibility 'cause I've seen his work.

It startedlife as one of them Chevy vans.
I think the "fared-in" fog-lights might be a bit excessive.

I think I'll finish a larger rendering of it with interoir shot all around, no mirror balls tho.

Here are some recent paintings. The one of the chevy truck is 5 feet by 7 feet and I had at Auburn this past weekend. It raised a few eyebrows from the duesenberg guys. Locab, nice work. Jigger, the Mercury is your best piece. Keep it loose.

It really takes about six before you can fully appreciate my work. That Buick was a shot my wife took at your show. Anything to get the wifey involved.
Thanks again,

I like that one the best, too. Although, it's kinda like saying I like one of my kids better than the other... it may be true, but I probably shouldn't admit it.

Aaaaaoooohhh!.....You're right. I blame myself. Now let's never speak of it again.
(note to self,.....No 70s,80s,90s vans on HAMB, and that '73 ElCamino is RIGHT OUT! cleanse self by fasting and wearing sackcloth and ash for 7 days , on 5th day of fast post Pierson Bros. coupe @ El Merage. That'll fix 'em.)

And thanks for reminding me why vans were a FAD.

bleck!

Don't ever do that again. You may take this as an "I told you so" (even though I never really "told you so" perse).

Another great art show in the books.

I am finishing up something real nice for a post in the future. I am waiting for a real show stopper of an art show to post it....

tHEY REALLY WERE STUPID WEREN'T THEY. I have young boys that I was showing these old Hot Rod Show World Books to recentlty. I have about a 1/2 dozen or so of them from when I was a kid dating between 78 and 84. They got way too carried away with that unspeakable FAD in 80 and half the book was those things. This has been ment as a joke from the beginning. after showing the books to the boys we went through a bonch of my old drawings and came across the origional sketch I'd done of that thing and, on a whim, did an updated drawing then used it to practice some Photo shop techniques. I'm sorry if it left a bad taste in peoples mouths.

I like the fact that it was different! I remember building model vans when I was a little 'un (the "Vanpire" was a personal fav, even if the wheels eventually ended up on the rear of a '56 Ford model), and Jigger's post brought back some memories... Hell, I even dug out some old ISCA show programs to re-live the moment...
Gutsy move posting it, cool work, and, man, I love your stuff, Jigger...
Really diverse show this week... and Broman, can't wait to see what you're workin' on!

Well it is chopped and shaved, bagged, with a Fat man IFS AND it's got a pair of long boards aboard. the interior is stictly utilitarian, dude spent too much on the outside to finish off the inside. Now I said I'd never (never say never) speak of IT again.
Broman, Zombie, Flying P, Thanks for the input.
'Til next week, Amigos!
