Gas tank ideas ???

Anyone have a good donor car in mind that I can use for my 28 coupe? I only have 14" between the rear crossmember and the back of the seat. I want something that will sit flat, 10 gallons will be plenty, and it can't stick thru the floor, too close to the driveshaft. And also
Did you guys put a firewall between your seat and your tank? I can't find a fuel cell that will work, cept on ebay, some guy builds em himself, and don't know how much I would trust that with it sitting under my ass. Hell, might end up using a 6 gal boat gas tank, hell, got the fuel guage built in. ha Thanks.....

This idea is for a roadster but is the same for a coupe. Use the 14" for the base, make it as wide as the car. Brake stainless steel to run up forming the wall bewteen the cab and the trunk and serving as the back of the seat. Add tabs on the side allowing the tank to bolt to the body, adding a lot of stiffness to the body. Add fuel inlets and outlets and the sending unit wherever you prefer. This tank will take up a minimum of space and leave the trunk usable. It will be maybe 4" at the top, and will hold about 20 gallons. It will be very near the center of the car, the safest location and provide weight over the rear axle.

i found my gastank at the boating supply store...it's a boat gastank and is very similar to a plastic fuel cell used in a streetrod type application. it holds 12 gallons, comes with fittings and built in gauge...best part is you can get them in a variety of sizes from 6 up to 50 gallons...mine cost right around $50. works great so far too.

I drove my coupe, for the first summer after I got it on the road again, with a garden hose stuck in a 5-gallon gas can.

Drove my 59 ranch wagon for a year with a plastic 6 gallon boat tank. In fact I thought about daisy chaining 2 together and saying the hell with the original, but then I traded the car and didn't worry about it.
