Hey Guys I have a 65 Buick Riviera and I'm not sure if I should cut it up and part it out or sell it as a whole, it has a lot of rust under the car but has a nice running 96k mile 401 in it, it shifts good as well, what are these motors selling for these days, any input would be appreciated.
I need to get some coin for some interior work on my sedan that's why I'm wondering which way to go.

Pull the motor and tranny, and sell the rest. It'd be a sweet powerplant for just about anything. Although a custom Riv would be pretty kick ass.

If it's all rusty, the motors worth more than the rest of the car. There is no shortage of Rivieras out there.

Sounds like a good parts car. If you were closer I'd probably buy it. Could use the rearend and all the suspension pieces to upgrade my 60. Frankly, could use the trans too. Ah well. One of these days....

I just bought a '65 425 w/ about 40k on it for $850. Paid $50 for the TH400 thanks to the Nailhead list. I would guess the 401 would be a little less. Maybe $600 for the pair if you like the person or $1k for Johnny-come-lately. Just my opinion. By the way if you go the 1st route drop me a PM. I'm always looking for Nailheads. And I don't have a 401 yet. Maybe I could put it in my truck.... Hmmm.....

Good question. I have a 64 wildcat that I'm parting out. I pulled the 401 nailhead and tore it down. Everything looks pretty good, but should put a set of rings in it. Has 400 trans too. I was going to use it in something in the future, but up to my neck in work right now so I may take it to pomona next month as is.
