If you are not familiar with the deer population in central Texas,I have a warning that you need to be aware of. We are covered up in deer around here and they like to wait in the bushes on the sides of roads and jump out. I have hit one, My son has hit two. If you miss the first one, they run in strings so the next one may get you. 290 from Junction to Austin is bad as is 281 from DFW to Austin. Dawn and dusk are the worst times. Good luck!

I35 should be safe from deer. It's the 18 wheelers you gotta dodge!!!

Just so you outta staters know, we don't, in general, drive very good down here. Most folks have trucks and they steer first, ask questions later.

I thought SoCal drivers were bad! I mean, we are, but when I saw an 18 wheeler rolling 55 in the fast lane, I almost crap my pants. Something else to keep in my all you "out of staters" (hahaha), big rigs ride in ALL lanes. Also, when in doubt, TAKE THE LOWER DECK! NOT THE UPPER DECK. That is unless you dont plan on getting off until downtown. You'll see...... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Is that a work a genius, or what. Take the two slow lanes of one of the busiest stretches of highway in the country and raise 'em up so they get a good view.

Now take the two fast lanes, keep 'em ground level. Add an on ramp every 1/8th mile or so. Go ahead and make it, oh let's say, about 50 feet long with a pretty sharp turn on the ramp. Oh, and put some walls up so the people getting on and the people on the highway can't see each other. Perfect! No, not yet. Let's add some rolling hills to the highway so if there is a crash, nobody can see in front of them far enough to stop. Yeah, now it's done.

You left out that all XXX video shacks are on the lower level for further visual distractions from the aforementioned 18 wheelers who have gone a whole 48 hours without slamming a good "lot lizzard".

Sounds like fun. I've noticed in my travels lately that all the cities are puting up the giant walls to block the noise and your view of where you are. Now it's like driving on a hotwheels track. Salt lake is fun, gotta go by the exit numbers. Soon you won't be able to see shit but the freeway traveling the whole wasatch front. And the signs are oh so helpful. "17th N 2 miles. 2nd south next exit". (South of WHAT?) Ogden? Layton? Roy? SLC? Provo? Where the fuck am I? How about signs telling you what friggin town you're passing thru on the other side of that wall. California does the same thing. You get a sign that says (Your destination city) 20 miles. Then it's all 20th st, 10th st, 5th st, 20th st again???? No clues about what towns you're passing thru or when you get to the right town. And the freeway is rolling thru a nicely landscaped cut that you can't see out of. Then if you're really lucky you get a sign that says (Your Destination) Next left! and you've been hugging the right thinking it would be a normal exit. How fast can you cross 4 lanes of heavy traffic? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

...LOl or maybe he is located on the 290, but NOT the 290 that turns into Ben White and then turns into the 71. The other 290, north of there, but if you go east towards Elgin its 290, go west into Austin, its the DAMN 2222! WTF? Buzzard's description of the 35 is the best I have ever heard.......doesnt matter though, I love it here and would never move. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Erik. It's not THE 290, or THE 71. It's just 290 and 71. That's is the EASIEST way to spot a Californian down here.

And yes 290 has some crazy twists and turns. Did you know that I35 from 290E to Ben White is also 290? It's just a little 8 mile jog in the road.

It's also the easiest way to spot a southern Californian up here! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I'm not sayin' we've got the worst drivers, just bad. Houston is far worse, from what I've experienced.

I didn't realize that the whole "the 101", or "the 405" is only So Cal. I thought it was all over Cal. Learn somethin' every day.

Oh, and while ya'll are in town, If somebody gives you directions to "Manchack" or "Manshack", it's spelled Manchaca. Confuses people all the time.

Beer's on me to the owner with the car with the most deer blood/fur on its grille. Score the antlers, and I'll start a mean tab!!!

Up here in Idaho roadkill could just as well refer to the driver who pissed off the buffalo, elk, moose or bear. Nobody sweats the deer. Hehe, you city folks think you've got bad kids in your neighborhood keying cars, wait till you see what a grizzly or bull elk can do to one! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
