Could the "depress" mean depression era...that was the thirtes!

I think that the "depress" refers to the headlight being able to tilt downward when meeting oncoming cars for
a "low-beam" effect. That is how the problem of dimming your headlights for traffic was first addressed; they
just swivelled the whole headlight.

Mid 30's hupmobiles also used the oval lights...looked killer.

They would look sweet frenched in... better then the few high buck kustoms I've seen with those Mercedes headlights, you know? They look like 'em, but cooler and actually an old car parrt, rather then expensive new stuff.
