looks like i'm buying JK's 53 chevy.
and i'm trying to decide were to go with it.
60's style, or 50's style...
i'm leaning toward 60's style. i've got raders and 8 yards of zodiac.
but i also got a set of 54 cad hub caps one day when i thought i wanted to go 50's style...

i'm not going to chop it or do anything too crazy (mild custom).

as much as i appreciate everyone's opinions, i'm not looking for you would do with it, more photos and stuff.

if you people have any pics (not in the barris, or southard books i've seen all those) that kinda the help i'm looking for. well now that i think about it you can tell me what you would do with, that's cool too, i'm sure that would also help.

here's the canvas.

i'd tell ya, but i'd have ta kill ya...

well i guess i could just tell ya,

he let it go for 3 (what he had in it). no engine, nice interior, and a little more finished than what the pic shows. he also found me an engine (i think) and i'm going to trade him into helping me out with some work on it too. he's a good shit, i don't care what his folks say about him

This one I took @ Fortuna Redwood Autorama in July, thought it has some classic touch to it. Would you consider it 60's-style, or '70s? Wish I had better shots of it. Black tuck 'n roll upholstery, Halibrands, nice eurathane paint.

'Nuther one, more of its second half. I wish the others would have come out OK. This one focussed more on the drag race about to happen.

Warpigg, glad to see it go to someone local. Lemme know if ya need any help on the bodywork/paint. I sprayed the old flat blk for JK but it had a lot of bodywork still left. I can guide ya if ya wanna do it yourself.

My brother sent me a video of some drags in Northern Cal. There's a 70's style 53 chevy 210 with the stock smokey blue and white paint, straight axle and jacked suspension, smallblock with fenderwell headers and aluminum slots. Had 4" in front and 12" in back with flat-tread bias plys. Showed it coming off the line and bouncing the front tires off the strip on every shift of the 4 speed...I LOVED IT!

The green scalloped one in the close-up pic above is one of the best 60's style '53-54s I've seen. It's a jaw-dropper in person. Here's a couple more pics I found of it:

Personally, I like the pic 53chebby posted the best. But, it's not me car any more. I'm still trying to beat my boss down on that price.

Which way are you going with it?

Hot rod or custom?

A lot of these were hot rods back in the day.
Stock height, sometimes dropped mildly in front.
Big & littles although not too big or too little.
Traction masters, both bumpers.
Stock suspension.
SBC, Nailhead or Olds power.

You don't need a solid axle or to build a gasser for the street.
Just a nice little Chevy hot rod with good performance and go anywhere capabilities.

Nothing against the customs, but if you go that way, seems you'll just be joining the crowd.

My personal opinion: IF you were willing to chop it, go 50s style - 50s style just looks best chopped. BUT, if you don't want to chop it, go 60s style since chops were less common then. Then just dress it up Watson style.

The Radirs with whites on the car Sleeper posted looks awesome to me (well, ok, the whole car).

yeah i'm thinking two tone either pearl or flake white top, and the zodiac i have is on the blue side of turquoise, i'd like to take that color and lighten it 4 or 5 shades while keeping it in the same color family (and staying away from the tri-5 chevy turquoise shades). and either do the turquoise in kandy or metallic. most likely metallic.

here's the zodiac:

I went to look for the new TRJ at Borders today, but no dice. I had a feeling that green car would get featured because I caught Coonan seriously checking it out at the Bowling Alley Friday night in Paso.

I think it's a kick ass car..it was definitely one of my faves at Paso.

ok talked to the wife (part owner) and we put our heads together:
kinda thinkin' something like this:
http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/image_uploads/160798-goldchev.jpg

only where it's gold we would like to do some kind of pearl sea foam (only the off white kind of sea foam, really really light, almost white with a tint of sea foam), and where it's white do a kandy shade of the zodiac... only no flake... whatcha think?
