The car seems like its "missing" if you give it anything more than mild acceleration. I can hear "spat, spat" sounding pops out of the tail pipes.
Seems like its got to be ignition related right? Running points. New plug wires, new plugs (took them out... running really rich) new cap, old point.
This car was running FINE all day yesterday and only when I pulled onto my street last night did it start doing this.
Any ideas?? I'm pulliny my damn hair out!

Maybe some more info, Engine type, 6 or 12 volt, how many carbs.
I will give it a guess anyhow.
To big gap on the sparkplugs?
Is the Carb accelerator pump working?
Mayby some tube was disconnected during the service?

When does it make the spat noise? When you nail the gas or let off? It sounds like it is when you let off, and if so, it would make sense if it appears to be running rich. But, then again, YOU probably used a vacuum gauge to set your mixture screws, right?
But then again, if you have a problem with ignition, it could also be leaving unburned fuel that causes the spat noise.

A little info on his setup... 355 SBC, single Holley 750 (3310), 12 Volt, TH350.

You are probably dumping too much gas into the engine, flooding it a bit. HAve you thought of changing jets to a smaller size? Maybe adjusting the power valves, you might be dumping too much gas from the power valves when you have low manifold vaccuum. If you floor it without the motor having enough vaccuum(ie. atleast 1500rpm), the power valves load up the gas and they may be floodding the engine. Just a thought

Done so far:
New points, new cap, new rotor. Jetted down from 72s to 69s. No change.
I don't have a dwell meter, but I set the points at .019
If I bring the RPMs up just sitting in one place you can feel the car stumble. Really feels a lot like I'm missing a cylinder. Gunna put new plugs in now so that there is one more thing that is NOT the problem

if you got cash to do it go buy a electronic ignition...like a pertronix and never mess with points again.you will be so happy you spent the cash.

It really sounds like either your gaps too wide on the points or you have a vacuum leak in the carb somewhere.
Could you have a leak at the carb gasket, vacuum advance line,....?
Might have a sticky valve.

And the winner is!!... krupanut with points gap!
Changed all the plugs same problem. Got inside looked at the HAMB saw the post. Moved the point in about 1/4 turn. Problem seems to have gone away. At least so far.

(Angel's voice from the other shoulder...) Don't listen to him...When points fail you can still get home...When your pertronix or HEI module takes a shit on you, you need to have a spare or rewire the dizzy for points. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif Wanna know how I know!!! (I've got a broken HEI and a broken Ignitor in my garage right now).
Then you get to call up Pertronix and tell them their 4 month old Ignitor II is broken and they can tell you you are stuck with it if you didn't save the receipt.
Electronic gadgets will be our downfall!!! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
