Top view. I need to lose the gas tank behind the seat yet, as well as hook up the moon style tank in the bed.
Do you think it will haul this HOG? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Wow, I remember how rough that thing was when you first got it. Looks like you've made some good progress. While the flatbed not my cup of tea, I could learn to likeit. I also agree with fathack that a stake bed would be cool.

I got just enough redneck in me to like 'em too. A prerequesite is a good slam job first.
I drive a flatbed at work but I fab'd up a pair of foot-tall side boards for mine. Made slots to accept a slip-in wooden tailgate in the very back or you can slip it into another pair of slots further up front...very handy.
Nice work!
Ya don't need sides, just tie downs and maybe a back board, but it'd have to clear the tank so you can still fill it from a pump....

Curious...why didn't you move the gas tank UP ONTO the bed instead of cutting the floor around it? I don't have a prob with the tank on the truk...just make it more obvious that it's there...looks like you are trying to hide it...just my 13 cents worth!

I like the location of the tank, it looks "FRENCHED" into the bed. Kinda Kustom like.
vt,
i'm assuming that you have a specific dimension to move the rear axle. i also assume you've photoshopped the wheel to that location to verify that it will look correct?
flatbeds are cool. 37express has a '37 ford that he's had for about a hunnert years. don't quote me, but i believe it was his first vehicle when he was old enough to drive. it was a factory original flatbed 'til some idiot sideswiped the bed hit and run style and totalled the bed. fortunately it didn't hurt the rest of the truck so he installed a pickup bed on it. it was a lot cooler with the flatbed, though.

(Just toss a BB-Q grill, a couple of lawn chairs, and a drink table with a potted plant up there and call it DONE!)

What's with all the flatbeds having Tenn plates?http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
VT - I must say I like it a lot, I always wanted to do a flatbed. Here are my thoughts - under the bed tool boxes on both sides, nothing too big, just big enough for tie downs, tools and chains. Or throw on some stacks for the full trucker effect with West Coast style mirrors and a whip antenna.
You cant have stake sides then the beer cans will stay on the bed and fall off. Oh yeah, keep an eye out for termites they can do some body damage http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

looks good! nice dimensions. flatbeds look great when done simple. its the oversized, overdone, overdetailed, clear coated to hell jobs that give flatbeds a bad name!
flatbeds with sides are cool too but they should be cab high or higher maybe even with a bowed canvas roof so it really looks like a hauler! IMO. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
