Guys,
Recd a message from Peddro (Wayne from Melbourne) this morning, asked I poet it so y'all can see Africa's not full of old tin....
Looks like he is having a good time despite the lack of willing Sweedes.....
G'day guys,
Quickly lettin' you know what's goin' on at the moment in Africa. Forgive my typing and thought process as I'm seriously hung over from last night's binge. We've been in the desert for the last week pretty much and we needed to let the hair down just a bit.....well, our guide did anyway!
Anyway, I've climbed Table Mountain in Cape Town, canoed down Orange River for 2 days (unbelievabl scenery.......even when you fall in and drown your camera!!), seen Blue whales, penguins, cheetahs, zebras, springboks, blah, blah, blah.......spotted a few old cool cars (Porsche 356 coupe under a bridge!), old XA Falcon utes and some weird Chevrolet Commmodores! No real vintage tin that I've gotten a good look at though.
See some strange sights. SOme of the poverty is astounding. Really sad. Shacks for miles. Cape Town is like razor-wire city.
Climbed sand dunes yesterday. Spent 2 days previous in Namib desert. FREAKIN' HOT!!!! ANd it's still winter. Some days it gets to 65+ deg where we were.
No Swedish backpackers. DAMN!!!!! They're ALL couples here!!!!! At least five Aussie couples. One french couple. One Swiss couple (very cute girl.......likes to wear pig-tails and skip a lot!!) and an old Belgian fella. Doing VERY well for myself though (spare Aussie chick), so don't panic for me just yet. Got knocked back by a German chick in Cape Town though. Very cute......win some, lose some, eh!
Right now, we're in Swokapmund on the west coast of Namibia. Old German town. Just tourist stuff. Everyone is real friendly. Going quad-biking today for some fun.
Even getting used to the accents of these buggers. Picking up a bit of good slang and swear words in Afrikaans too.
Can't think of much else. Probably won't get a chance to send you another email or even check this email out again, so I'll talk to you all when I get back.
We're at the half way point as such, so still a long way to go. Man, I'm sick of living out a bag and it's only been 10 plus days. The flight here SUCKED. 25 hours from take off in Melb to landing in CApe Town. Yuk!
Heaps of souvenirs here. Gotta resist at this stage 'cos I don't want to carry them. (No probs there Morris!!)
Taken heaps of photos. You'll get to see them all when I burn them onto CD. Wish I could download some now. Taken like 150 already. Film camera is dead (as it tends to hppen when it gets wet).
Gotta go. Take care out there!
Wayne Hadfield.
P.S. HAMBERS: Feel free to drop this onto the HAMB so some of the guys I couldn't list on my email know what's going on.
P.P.S.: God, I'm hungover!
