View Full Version : Flathead in 32 measurement needed...

I need the measurement from the center firewall mounting hole (where the body mounts) to the center of the motor mount. Ideally with a 59A with truck motor mounts and an early Ford trans in the stock K-member.

I think I have my engine too far back, and maybe too high. After I got my firewall repaired, I now have clearance problems around the bellhousing.

This is the measurement I need, measured down the outside of the frame rail...

Mine measures at 29 3/4.I had a little problem with the back of the manifold hitting the firewall, and the trans mount was kind of in a bind. The mounts are flush with the top framerail. All I did was put the motor mount biscout in a bandsaw and trim it down a little.Everything fits fine now.

29-3/4? Mine only measures 26". That seems like a really big difference...

Did you measure from the center of the indented cowl mounting hole straight along the frame rail to the center of the front motor mount hole?

Thanks,

Neal

Ooops, started at the farthest back hole.26" exactly from indented hole.

Well, I guess that is good news that my motor mounts are in the right place.

The rear of the engine must be way too high. I had to space the firewall up 3/4" on each side so it would just clear the back of the block and at that point a floor board will not clear. It seems like it will be difficult to get the back down 1" and keep the stock wishbone.

BTW, I am using a T-5 trans.

I am not sure where to measure, but I would like to get a hieght measurement for the rear of a stock trans centerline in relation to the top of the frame rail.

Thanks,

Neal

I get 26 1/4 C-C....8CM with truck pumps.

Neal how many degrees slope your engine down in relation to the chassis ? Or is it in level?
The engine should be in level when your '32 is on wheels.
My engine with T5 is 3°.

This is the measurement I need, it should be from the top of the frame rail to the center of the rear motor mount.

Thanks,

Neal

Hi Neal ... Belive the green line hits dead center of frame-rail . ( won`t be able to measure it up until tomorrow , but it can`t be to far from the truth )

My firewall bolt to motor mount measurement is 26-1/2 c-c. And the bottom mounting surface of the '48 water pump is level with the bottom side of the top frame flange. This is about 1/4" up from Ford's original centerline (measured through the spring clamp O-hole). I am using a '39 trans on a stock K-member, and the rear tranny mount is slightly cocked because of that extra rise up front.

If you aren't using the stock tranny, it would be better to be a little higher in the saddle just to match the water pumps up with the radiator better.

Go ahead and trim the bottom of that firewall.
