I'm helping a guy put together a 1959 Pontiac 389. We opened the new Felpro gasket set (marked "389", but no years) he bought for it and the timing cover gasket is wrong, it's got a lip seal for the crankshaft instead of the spring loaded seal we took off it (lip seal won't fit the housing) and the head gaskets look different. I'm no expert on Pontiac engines, but I'm guessing there were changes made during the production life of the 389 - am I right? If so, what years are different? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif
Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

they changed in 65. you need a rebuild kit for years up to 64.

Thanks, Blakmerk, I appreciate your response. I thought it must be something like that, now I'm sure.

Intake gaskets will be 55-60 V/8...61-64 used a different one for a difference in water passages and 65 up is different yet.
