On this transmission crossmember that had cracked, someone repaired by adding a piece of metal. Good idea, stronger than before........

But, they did nothing to repair the crack and buggered up holes.....

grind the weld down, clean it up, ordinary stuff but maybe instructive to some. Paint it and go to town knowing how purty yer parts are even if no one else ever sees them. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

i waited a few minutes to see if there was another pic coming, but i guess there isn't. sure hope i'm not cuttin' ya off at the pass here. good job. and i agree that whether or not anyone else can see a deal like this (all "down under" and all) doesn't matter nearly so much as the fact that I KNOW what it looks like down there. and it makes a difference to me. not that i haven't cobbled some stuff up in my life, but i keep trying harder not to as i go along.

Here ya go, Atch, jes fer you--a pic of the crossmember with its glorious new shiny black paint! What? Of COURSE its black! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif what other color would you paint a transmission crossmember? I am SURE its black--adjust your color monitor. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif This crossmember hit a stump and wuz purty bent. Its for my kids jeep. He may have a fit when he sees what color it is. Then again since he's colorblind, ya think he will believe its black?
