Inspired by Dirty31's new project (http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=122804&&showall=1), I had to scrawl out this A coupe that's been running thru my head for a few months. Oh, and Brush, you convinced me to try Painter on this one. It's a pretty cool app!

That could be what `The KING' looks like today.
(No disrespect intended, Memphis.)
My advise to all young artists is, observe your surroundings, carry a sketchbook and favorite art tools with you everywhere and Draw, draw
draw! Even in your sleep. The Hamb is a great place to get inspiration.
If that sketch is from the mind and hand of an 8th grader the talent is there so find a good art school and learn to draw `right' . It's like any other vocational choice, you really have to keep at it and always stive to do the
next piece better than the last. Most of all, allow and accept criticism. this is one of an artists greatest tools so long as it's constructive and not either overly mean or overly adorning. Keep at it. There's promise in them thar brain-o-yours.

Sean, Slide, Fordy6, Jigger, thanks!
Slide, that coupe is killer! Great job by your son, too! And Toyghoul, I love that box! My wife saw me scrollin', and yelled "go back!" from across the room...
Machobuck, show us some more! Diggin' on the piece you posted, and if that's from about 3 years ago, I can only imagine where you're at now. And like Jigger pointed out, carry a sketchbook everywhere and draw EVERYTHING. you'd be amazed at what you can pick up drawing a shopping cart or pile of trash (aside from tetanus, etc)... seriously. (and it'll give you a huge advantage if you pursue it in school, and take life-drawing classes)

And thanks for the props Brush and flyingpolock. That's huge coming from yall.
There have been some really good inspiring art shows the last few weeks... and this week's already turning out to be another one!
flyingpolock-- I don't want to expose your secret recipe, but it looks like you are combining vector and "brushstrokes"... what software/media are you using (If I may ask!)?
Jigger
08-04-2006, 08:13 AM
Yep,
Life drawing! Don't think of it as drudgery. What really helped my drafting skills was when I quit thinking about how I was just drawing stuff and actually drawing 3-D objects. Your pencil is like a sculptors chisel and the paper's the stone. This is where learning animation paid of in my approach to evrything I draw, especially cars. Allow your eyes to wrap around what you're looking at as you draw then ours will too as we view it. And work loose.

Here's the scariest part: No brushes whatsoever. Everything I do starts off as a pencil rough, and gets scanned in, then I start working it over in Illustrator. No brushes, no meshes... time consuming? Hell yeah, but it gives me some added control.
(I used to do everything w/markers and rapidographs... but a degenerative nerve and muscle disorder is making my hands worse for wear, so I'm forcing the software to do what I want... )
No secret recipe, just some serious insomnia.:D

Wow Guys - this is some phenominal work.
Flying Polock - you already know how I feel about your stuff. Yowzah.
Zombie- all these colored pencils on black paper is encouraging me to experiment with some of that - if you don't mind.

Did this at work for the guy next to me. I'm trying to get him to buy a '68 C10 I found near my house the other day for $1200. GA truck in great shape. The jerk is going to spend $12,000 on a new roof instead. No priorities...His son's name is Scotty, hence the Scotty Scooter!

Great Art Show this week, again. Seems like I say that every week.
Haven't done much lately, been doing actual work, just sucks, but pays some bills.
Made this Desk Top Art Work for a new Hamber, but haven't heard from him since its been done. Must be MIA. Anyway, this is my rendition of a 62 Olds Hearst. Its pretty big at 11 3/4" long, 3" wide and about 3 3/4" high. Last picture is his car, hoping he will get back to me one way or the other.

well thanks for the positive feed back guys. i have been having a lot of fun with the black paper. unfortunately, when i scan it into the computer the background looks like a dark gray, so i have to screw around with the levels. once i do that i loose a lot of the subtle blends and detail. we are going to be making prints of some of these.
gigantor, help yourself. i didnt invent this style, i stole it myself. ha ha
jigger, i did a couple of drawings on black paper about 5 years ago, and always wanted to do some more, but just hadnt had the time, then i found some drawings that were done on black sometime back in the late 50's. they were of some concept cars. i have no idea who the artist was, but they inspired me to give it another go.

Well, Holls' style is pretty defined. He's the one responsible for the "55 Chevy pick-ups car-like qualities (re: hoods over the headlights) and had a heavy hand in on the '59 designs, in particular the Cadillac. He's creditted
for their fin design.

Thanks, tim, those are some pretty swanky pieces you've posted, too! I have a long ways to go before I'm at that level. I just kinda faded the crosses out, on the inside of the forearms. I was gonna do some sorta "break" in the cross, but it didn't seem to fit with the motif (sp?)...the names are for his kids. I kinda liked how they each looked nice, but unfinished seperately, and complete when put together. Know what I mean?
Bowtie...I look forward to seeing your work soon! hang in there with the apprenticeship. I've only been tattooing for a little over a year now...it's just now starting to be a little more fun and a little stressful! :D
