Just got back from my storage warehouse and found it had been broken into. Everything rifled through. Boxes dumped into a huge pile in the floor. The wife's ceramics now chips and dust. Most electronic stuff gone. A new radiator smashed with a chair. Seems they hacked a hole through the roof to get in and walked out the door with the loot. Rain ruined what they didn't. Most of the stuff was extraneous anyway and won't be missed. The big exception is the pair of taillights I'd planned to use on the Hupp. There isn't an original set to be had on the planet so I'd settled for a nice pair of 34 Ford lights with chrome stands. I guess I'm looking for taillights again. Any suggestions? May the bluebird of happiness make his nest in the freakin thief's nostrils.

I've been there. Wouldn't you just love to get the bastards alone in a closed room for just 15 minutes? Oh, I forgot, take a baseball bat in there with you and I'll guarantee they wouldn't steal anything else, at least until the casts came off.

This might be a good use for that trained Gerbil they were talking about in the other post. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Hey, Hupp,
I've got a couple of sales brochures for the '34 W417. The best match that I've seen are '37 Ford tail lights. They have a nice streamline design, very close to the real thing, but just a little smaller in diameter. You could also look at some late '30's Mopar units, sort of mini-torpedo or tear-drop sort of lights.
Sorry to hear about the thieving low-lifes. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
Later, Kinky6.

Some rat bastard went over my fence and stole my bicycle a couple of weeks ago. I hope he rides it into a tree and it falls on him. Hey Kinky, any chance of getting a photo copy of those brochures? A friend of mine has a W417 and it would make a swell gift. You'd feel so good about yourself you could drive out to Shorter and buy yourself some draught beer in the gas station. Only after noon on Sunday, though. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif Wayno

Some fag stole the dash outta my '72 SS El Camino while I was in Vegas 'bout two months ago. I mean the whole dash, as in the plastic, SS-only gauges, wiring, everything. Came back and someone had taken their time to swipe the whole thing. Looking at about $4000 in parts, not to mention my time. The wiring harness is $700 alone.... Fucking thieves!!!! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Go to every pawn shop and swap meet you can find within a 200 mile radius

I haven't ever heard of a swap meet closer than Charlotte (5 hour drive away) and it seems I always hear of that one a week after. Chances are those lights are decorating some kid's room or bicycle

I know 'zactly how ya feel... My Dad died December '02 and left me his cherry pie restored 30 model A pickup....been in our family since 1930. By the time I got out to his place to claim it in May of '03, it was gone and a new lock put on the shed it had been stored in. I HATE THIEVES!!!

Sounds like either an "inside job" or someone who saw what was in your space. Why would someone go thru the trouble of sawing into the roof to gain access if it was a crap shot as to the contents inside? Seems fishy to me. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

It happens a lot I guess, I've heard of other peoples storage being broken into as well. The thieves just figure it's worth something because it's in storage instead of the trash I guess.
I'm sorry to hear about your losses. I grew up in the middle of nowhere, (past Alpine for the S.D. folks). My dad had an old bug he gave me to drive unbtil I could afford something. It had just been sitting by my tack room a few feet down our driveway. I went to go pull it up to the house so my brother-in-law could check it over for me and I noticed somebody had stolen the $20 Kragen special tape player out of it! It didn't work anyway so no big deal, but I had about $3,500 worth of horse tack in the un-locked building next to it, untouched.
Did you have any insurance on the storage? Like renters insurance or anything? I don't know if they have that kinda thing or not.
Anyway, I'm sorry.

Usually homeowners or renters insurance include 10% off premisis coverage for personal stuff. Doesnt cover car parts.
