I really dig the rims I got off of Radshit, but I want a little wider rim for the rear The planned Hemi will make mince meat out of a 4" tire... I am contemplating buying a couple more rims (there were 3 "similar" sets at the Long Beach Swap Meet yesterday) cutting them apart to make what I need... Sucks to destroy old stuff though...
Anyone know of an application with a wider 17" artillery rim?

are those 17 with the small ford/mopar pattern?
I'd like any info possible on what these came on and if I should use mine. I'll measure the width on mine for you when I get home.

Prime, Radshit said these are '34 Chevrolet 5 Lug, which I understand is pretty hard to come by... The ones I see at the swap meet look pretty close, but probably different lug pattern... I am going to build the car around the wheel, So pattern is sorta moot to me at this point...

Have you considered replacing the rim with a modern 17 inch steel rim ?
If you can find one where the rim has the same inside diameter, you could drill the rivets out, put the centre into the new rim and plug weld through the rivet holes.
If the inside diameter is smaller, someone like Stockton wheels could cut down the centre to fit.
According to this site, some Ford Expeditions have a 17x7 rim, or check with some of the aftermarket wheel companies and see what they have available.

Simon, thought about that, but haven't measured out the options yet... These things are sortof rare...
If I do weld the centers into new rims, what would be a good width to get some tall bias ply's on?

What size tyre are you planning to use ? Once you know that, you should be able to get an idea of the rim width you need.

The 17" was on ~33-5 Plymouth & Dodge with the small 5 lug pattern that fits Ford. Those were an independent outfit stamped wheel that was sold to several car companies. Pretty common at swap meets. Since there were no wide 17" ties back then there are no wide rims. Same with the 16" version which were available even into the late 50's on trailers with a max of 6.50 x 16's.

Thanks Guys! Don, it would appear that he had to take out a good portion of the rim to make it fit the blank... Good to know...

The wheels Framedragger has in his posession are off a 34 Chevy coupe. I pulled the frame, with the wheels, out from under it and swapped in a frame I had already that was boxed.
The bolt pattern is 5 on 4.25. Smaller then a Dodge or small Ford. The front brake drums were never modified, so I never had a reason to think they weren't original to the Chevy.

Radshit, I am going to run your's on the front, un-modified. I am trying to find something similar for the rears (at which point I may butcher the other set to make 'em wider). No mock-up of the front yet, because I haven't thrown the old frame out... but I think the chevy rims would look pretty good on a suicide front axle...
