View Full Version : I missed Rides... BUT HERE'S WHY!!! The '47 comes home!
KIRK!

I'm sorta bummed I missed Rides, even though we all knew the outcome already. But I'm super stoked to have the '47 back home where I can get to work on it. Rich and Eric dropped it off around 9pm and damn is it SWEET! It's ultra cherry from Bottom of the windows down. The top just needs to be blocked. Here's what we've done on the body so far: All four fenders molded, running boards eliminated (body extended), all trim except the beltline shaved, B pillars slanted, top chopped, doors and trunk gapped, door and trunk corners rounded, bear claw latches installed, dents repaired, decked (soon to be nosed too), drip rails smoothed and the firewall de-swiss cheesed. Now I gotta get my shit in gear and finish the suspension and get the drivetrain in place. Paso is right around the corner!

Out of curiousity you didn't mold the fenders or fill the trims holes? Not tryin to get into a pissin contest. Just askin

What do you mean? Did I personally do them?

Where they droppin it off because they did the work? Reason I ask is because I think you're fully capable of doing the work yourself. As I said before just curious?

They did a lot of work. I could have done pretty much all of the work but no where near as well as my friends did. The plan was to do it all myself but Eric needed work to get his shop off the ground and I HATE BODYWORK. Sanding for hours on end is no where near as fun as figuring out frame and suspension puzzles.
I'd started to mold the fenders but Eric talked me into letting them finish it. I filled and finished all the trim holes and did about 30%-40% of the metalwork on the chop, gapped the drivers door, rounded the door corners, filled the old taillight holes, shaved the door locks, filled and reworked the dash plus everything not body related. Did I mention that I HATE BODYWORK. I love suspension and chassis work.
I'll be spraying it, frenching the headlights, nosing and peaking the hood, cutting down all the garnish moldings and putting in the new grill when I make up my mind what direction to go. I'm slow as shit when it comes to this stuff and I want to make Paso. I can do this stuff but I'm definitely no master body man.

I know I seen pics of the chop before. I was just bustin your balls. I don't really enjoy sandin myself. The car gives me wood. I mean I was supposed to make viva but I turned bitch boy and just got my 38 blasted and shot her myself. General automotive ain't so hard. First timer and the last thing I fabricated with my tranny crossmember out of square tube. Like I said just bustin your balls. PS if I can make billetproof and send in my registration I hope you forget my screenname just bustin some balls http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
Lookin good.
I have been watching your car since the concept pic was posted.
Some of what is being done to your 47 will probably find the way to mine.
i went another route in that i worked on the suspension first.
I have mine sitting about the way I want it.
I had considered changing the firewall, but the way yours looks has changed my mind.
Thanks for showing the pics,
Jim

The car is looking KILLER, Kirk! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif
(I share your sentiments on bodywork...I'd have farmed the bulk of it out myself!)
Hope to see it in person someday!

That looks great. I really like how they worked the driprail...it looks like they have trimmed it and faded it into the roof above the quarter windows...can you post some detail shots of that? Maybe one from the front, one from the back, and one close-up profile shot?

So, what's the story behind the pedestrians with tails and the bunny with the bird? I just love checking out other people's garages. I've got the same Flathead Road sign. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The pedestrians have horns too and the bottom of the sign says "Kids Love Satan". The bunny is Devil Bunny. He has travelled all over the world with me for about 12 years. I have photos of him in Paris, London, Milan, Amsterdam, Statue Of Liberty and The World Trade Center. The sign with him is from a tradeshow booth when I owned a skateboard apparel company called Eleven Eleven Operations.

Looks killer.
I am trying to visualize what my dad's car sould look like when he get's it done. This is very inspiring.
Here's a few pics of the car that was GIVEN to my dad in exchange for a paint job. He has gotten to about the same state you are at - well he still has to do alot of engine/tranny/rear/suspention work yet - so I guess he's a lot further behind you. Besides that though he's almost done! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif A free car...it's nice to be a body man....
I will look for updated pics too, but here are some beginning pics:

Is it the dust boogers...hacking up bondo balls? Lack of fingerprints? Aching back? PrimerLung? What? I just don't get it.
Hope to see it at Paso.

The plan right now is for it to be the same copper metallic as the wheels but just basecoat. A fade job would be sweet. I am painting it at Brewsir's shop. I could pick his brain for tips.

Looks killer, Kirk. That's a hard chop to pull off right, but you've done it. It doesn't seem like it was that long ago that we were up your way (looking at your little Buick), you've made some real progress in what seems like a short time.

My friend Mathew has a 48 he calls the “Raven” it has to be one of my favorite cars, there are so many little details to it that you barely notice.
Looks like your car is well on its way I hope to check it out for myself in Paso.

That thing is is SWEET. Mine will never be that low because I kept the straight axle setup. Now that I molded the fenders there's no clipping or Mustang II in the cards. That thing has go to be bagged 'cause he's only going straight the way it sits. Mine rubs already. I'm going poor man style bags in the back. HiJackers and a mini pump.
