My friend up here in Wisconsin has a 1956 Shepherd wood boat for sale (tentatively)!!! Looks like the one in this link...
http://www.mahoganybay.net/Boats/Boats%20for%20web/shepherd/1956%20Shepherd/
The boat originally came with a Hemi..., I don't know what size they were originally in 1956..., but it sports a 426 hemi w/dual quad now! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif
Everything looks original but I was wondering what sizes the Hemi's were in 56' and if there were Special Hemi's for marine use? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif
What 426 parts would fit earlier Hemi's?

I don't think anything from the 426 fit any early hemis
the 1956 Chryslers had the 354 ci motor

'56 Chysler - 354
'56 DeSoto - 341/345
'56 Dodge - 315
The Elephant Hemis don't interchange anything with the '50s Hemis to my knowledge. And little to nothing interchanges between the '50s motors.

same type of valve covers

the valve covers are quite different
the most obvious difference is the 426 had one top corner lopped off right front and left rear
the early hemis had a more or less rectangular shape

I saw a marine Hemi here the other day, from memory the valve covers read Chrysler Marine ?? this thing was a boat motor with all the marine gear still on it and sure looked factory.

There were Dodge 241, 270, 315 and a 325 as early as '57. DeSoto also had 276, 291, 330 and 341.

Paul, that Hemi at the Hot Rod blowout did have Chrysler Marine rocker covers.
It was real similar to the one in the Shepherd in the link above, but was a single 4 bbl.
It even had the same (marine only) front timimg cover setup with starter and gearbox attached. Now that I think about it, I guess that means it has a flywheel of some kind mounted off the front of the crank as well. Definitely different !

Chrysler definitely made a marine hemi, and hemis were used in other applications as well, such as large generators. Every once in a while these generators show up on ebay. I believe the Chrysler Hemi even came in some of the larger Dodge trucks (grain/dump) later in the 50s.
Most of these, in a friend's storage barn, are marine hemis. All are 392's.
