Felt like shit, but went anyway.
Weather was good Friday. Having a good time until I got stung on the lip by a bee!
Forgot my damn camera. And there were a lot of HAMB worthy cars there.
The Greedguys called the po-lice on the Pack Rats for the heinous crime of having too much fun on Saturday.
Knucklebuster, sorry we only got to talk for 30 seconds. Felt so shitty I never went back to the fairgrounds on Sunday. I'll catch you at South Butler.

Sorry to hear you didn't have a good time. I have no clue whats up with bees lately, my mom got stung under her eye last weekend and a number of folks got stung this weekend at Kzoo, which by the way was a blast. I guess next year you'll need to cruz west this perticular weekend for a better time. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

2003 - Year Of The Bees???

There were quite a few buzzing around down at the gig in Indy last week...but they must sampled the Fuel Injected chili and been grounded...cuz I don't think anyone got stung!

A few of 'em swooped down and landed on me a few times...but no stings this time around!

Local news in NE Ohio area has been reporting multiple bee stings (15-20) and people going to hospitals. Maybe some kinda thing where the bees all got together one day and decided that 2003 was THE year. Sounds like B movie?!?!

The bees get bad around here this time of year, just did a show and shine deal in Django's hometown of Lebanon and had bees there too. They are always bad at James Dean and the Ducktail Run so there is your warning. The food vendor areas and trashcans are the locations to be careful and most importantly, do not leave your drinks open and sitting around.

Heh heh heh,

Yeah they called the cops( total of 5, guess they thought we were badasses or somthing http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif) on us because we had a grill out and were gonna cook some burgers and stuff...
"no open flames on the fairgrounds" and "the guy's at the consesion stand thinks your selling your food".

It didn't help that we were about 25 feet from them, but we weren't selling..just wanted to eat.

Funny as hell though!!
Can ya imagine getting kicked out for cooking?! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I have about 100 plus pix of really nice rides that were there, courtesy of Dat Dirty Rat.
As soon as i size them up, i'll put a bunch on.

Knucklebuster's a cool guy, got a chance to bs a little while.
Moondisc,how's the lip??
see ya at the drags.

You mean they don't let you BBQ at that event??? I bet they were charging $5 for one cheesey little hot dog too.

Didn't you know that your not supposed to have fun at a greedyguys event?? You are merely there to provide that organization with;

a. overinflated entry fees
b. a car that they can charge Joe Public $15 to see

...from that point, you should don a white greedyguys shirt, sit in your deckchair, do not consume alchohol, and eat at the vendor booth for $7 a burger.
This of course, is providing that you can park a car without being told "sorry, thats vendor space", 'sorry, thats a fire zone", "sorry, thats a washroom", etc.

Oh, and make sure your outta there by 11 pm., cause greedyguys close at midnite to go count money.

The power of the 'American Dollar' at its finest!
F-k the police,,they only killed a second of the fun.
It would of really sucked if they took all the coolers or even worse,,made us dump everything. But they didn't.
So respect is due!
It wasn't funny to me holmes,,You know how it is tho,, people love 'Drama'...
Many kats ducked out when the 'heat' came...esp. when it began to rain..the showed cleared out..
There we where holding our spots down eating/drinking and laughing at people scrambling to get out of the show.
They must not have realized they created a traffic jam wich cause them to be out in the 'wetness' of mother nature longer and they prob. made more of a mess to they're 'precious' show rods driving in the shit!
Still had fun tho,,hooked up with some really 'Real' people..still got buzzed..still raised a lil' hell..

Still 'Love' those GreedyGuys

Dirty

O-yeah, next year I'm bringing the George Foreman grill..so 'Burgers' on me!..Greedy Bastards http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I took a car load of woman cruising the fairgrounds Saturday, and one of those 'precious' show rods got all pissed at me for slowing down his trip back to the big tin box when the rain started.
I have fun no matter what! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Thanks for the reminder why I don't want to get into it with sour grapers. I'd hate to run any photos of guys that had such a bad time http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif Thanks for the heads up!
So many people come and have such a bad time http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif
But you said it yourself, the FAIRGROUNDS doesn't allow BBQs as well there is no connection with the food vendors that charge 5 bucks for burgers whether it's a Horse Show, Quilt Show or Greedyguys Show. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
I know cause I have to slap out 10 bucks for lunch like everyone else. Same thing at Baseball Games, Football Games, Basketball Games, Movies, Amusement Parks and just about anywhere you can think of- But really it's all part of the GREEDYGUYS conspiracy! HA HA HA HA HA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When we heard the Pak Rats were being busted for cooking lunch, my wife started bakin' cookies with little files in 'em - we were gonna get you guys out one way or another!! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Cooking burgers at a hot rod show ?......what were ya thinkin? You coulda gotten life without parole! You're better off murdering somebody - you'd be out in a couple of years.

Tony
09-15-2003, 08:44 PM
Well, what are ya gonna do...
I think the only reason it got to the point it did was simply because of the way we were approached on the issue..

We were there last year and cooked, nobody said anything about not having an open fire there.

Ya live and learn...
And i still had a blast even with this "event"...
I'll be back next year..

I wish I had been there for the Law vs. the Burger match, but I, as always, was late.

Had a pretty good time despite the rain. Good to meet all you guys finally.

Pak Rat - Thanks again for the parts.

Moondisc - Sorry we didn't get to talk longer - I woulda made you hold up traffic longer anyway.

See you guys in Butler.

Oh, by the way. I went back on Sunday 'cause I had the weekend pass. You guys didn't miss a thing. So many people bailed there were only a couple hundred cars there (if that). I got there at 12:30 and was able to park 6 rows from the main gate. Pretty sad showing. God forbid our precious cars get wet. Oh well - I shouldn't say anything - I didn't drive mine 'cause it doesn't have wipers.

Later,
Jay

Yep, I'm at EVERY event- never got an e-mail or you would have heard from me. Maybe I was too busy squashing other people's fun, or maybe I was enjoying those Gyros too much- mmmmm them are good! Yeah, they are 6 bucks, but they are at least 4.50 any where else! That 1.50 could have bought me...... uh..... well..... ummm......I'll think of something, then I can scream GREEDYGUYS like everyone else. You know gas used to be 25 cents a gallon before Greedyguys started getting a piece of that action!
You'd think with all the money GREEDYGUYS rapes off people they would pay for some better weather! Sheesh!

I knew I'd catch shit sooner or later. It was the wiper thing on top of the Idler arm problem (too lazy to fix), on top of the I'm only gonna be ther for a couple of hours so why pay $50 thing on top of the kookie brakes thing (another too lazy to fix thing).

Honestly, I was chicken and too cheap to pay to park my car inside the gate. But I will get RainX and get a spine, then nothing will stand in my way.

Jim,
I emailed you right after your post saying you were taking a break from the HAMB.
Wanted to talk to you one on one rather than open up a can of worms on here.
Seems to me the whole spirit of the Goodguys changed when Billy died.
I see registration has gone up another $5.
You best gurandamntee at least 2 days with no rain at those rates! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
BTW, come up with a good name for the NSRA and we'll use it. hehe

Jeez, I just don't know-sometimes I just hate the crap that is evident at the Goodguys shows and the NHRA shows. Then, I step back and look at what they provide, and it ain't so bad. While I sure as hell hate the $6.00 hamburgs and the $2.00 bottles of water, I prevent all that by bringing my own stuff. And, I sure as hell don't get the notion that you can't fire up a grille on the fairgrounds for some good old made-in-the-USofA burgers by a bunch of guys carrying on an old tradition. But, the other good old American tradition is capitalism-and that means that the guy running the burger joint (who pays handsomely for the privilege of servimg his overpriced food to the masses) was afraid that he may lose some greenbacks. So, he bitches to the powers-that-be, and SHAZAMMM, competition is out of business. Of course, looking at the real situation, it is obvious that no real money was being lost, but animosity sure grows. What really is causing this whole bruhaha is lack of perspective, on our parts as participants and on the parts of the organizers and vendors. How much business did Tony and his grille really sap from the place next door? Did the owner really think that he would sell more stuff by shutting them down? Get a perspective on the whole thing and I think the answer is obvious. Goodguys is in a tough situation, the rules say one thing but, commonsense says another. But, rules being rules, commonsense takes another shot in the ass! Sorry for the rant-just my perspective.

Django

If you want to cook, just park away from the action. Simple. The "party" will find you and the "uptights" won't go that far out to find you because they have a million and one other things they have to take care of. Maybe it's not that simple... I don't know the grounds.

**DONOTDELETE**
09-16-2003, 11:37 AM
That fairgrounds is a separate entity from the people running the event. My suggestion would be to run out to the camping area, burn up a big batch then run them back in and nobody could say squat. Just a suggestion.

09-16-2003, 11:52 AM
Do the rules say no generators and George Foreman grills? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif I always liked Goodguys cause they had less "rules" to follow. They Promoted cruizing. This year at Columbus they had gates and guards at every other road. Sorta pisses you off but I just backed up and went to the road not blocked.
As for NSRA we refer to them as FNSRA..Fu#* NSRA

Like i said, we were about 20-25 ft away from them, so i'm sure that didn't help matters. If we were somwhere else on the grounds, i don't think there would have been any problems..
It was more of a "state" issue than a GG issue..

When they outlaw grill and spatualas ONLY OUTLAWS till OWN grills and spatulas!

Thats fucking gay. Jim, I am not razzing you here but if Goodguys really cares, shit like this would be abolished! Cant grill a burger and picnic cause some vendor got his overpriced feelings hurt? fuck em! You bring huge $$$ to the fairgrounds, the area and the region. Get Gary on the phone and talk to the "powers that be" about suckh a lame rule.

Rodruns without BBQ? Wait these arent rodruns...they are "shows" WTF?

hemi
09-17-2003, 01:50 AM
I'm under the impression that it was the fairgrounds' rule on the BBQs. Insurance purposes I suppose. You know you can't cook without beer, and beer leads to stumbling, stumbling leads to falling, falling leads to falling on the hot grill and getting badly burned. Now the injured dumbass party seeks money for stupidity and tries to sue said property owner for compensation, thus wasting a lot of money and time in legal dances.

It's cheaper to say no.

I'm pretty sure the tattle-tale vendor guy wasn't too happy either. Simply because if you guys were ALLOWED to cook and serve burgers, even to yourself, well the next thing you know, everyone would start cooking their own food. Monkey see monkey do, and then, sadly, six-dollar burger guy would just have a trailer full of meat and flies, and no cash. He would be forced to ponder his chosen profession working three days a month in a sweaty old camper cooking nasty food for complaining millionares and po-boys alike.

Then, in a moment of quiet despair he'd kick himself for not listening to his parents and becoming the ballet dancer that is within him. And he'd cry. You want to make that guy cry? Do You? Do you even know how embarassing that would be for the car show promoters to have the food guy crying like a little weenie? They'd have to figure out a way to charge you to look at him, so they wouldn't think you got ANYTHING for free at their mega-show show.

I guess that's why they make cold cuts and subs.........they fit into a "legal" cooler. Or your back pocket if you don't mind flat sandwiches, a mild poopy aroma, mushy cheese and a touch of food poisoning from spoiled May-O.

Mr. Officer JimA, I feel that maybe you are a little too sensitive when it comes to the inevitable bashing of Good Guys. They do good things and they do bad things. You just can't please everybody...however, I must say that I enjoy reading your Barney Fife antics as you police the threads keeping an eye out for do-badders taking the Godd Guys names in vain.

Get'em dog.
