This is awesome...this is what they need to do every week..but then agin, it wouldn't be "Monster Garage" it would be "Old School Rods & Kustoms Built the RIGHT Way"...and no one but US would watch it...which isn't good for ratings...or $$$ http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Theres no way they will ever top that.
That was about 1000 years of knowledge in that garage.
What a line-up-
Dick Dean, custom-car builder, San Jacinto, Calif.
• Norm Grabowski, retired actor and hot-rod owner, Lead Hill, Ark.
• Bill Hines, custom-car builder, Garden Grove, Calif.
• Mike Hines, automotive sales manager, Yorba Linda, Calif.
• Fat Jack, custom-car builder, Lake Elsinore, Calif.
• John Robinson Jr., crane mechanic, Long Beach, Calif.
• Gene Winfield, custom-car builder, Mojave, Calif.

Met Bill Hines at the KKOA event in Lexington,KY a few years ago ('99 maybe?).He was in the Bat,and had a younger guy driving him around the country. The guy driving told me he had all his tools with him,and would travel to different guys shops to do lead work.Bill signed some stuff for my son,who was then 13 and very impressed.I was very impressed, too.I'm in total awe of these guys, and am glad that,in some circles anyway, they are getting the respect they deserve. Just sorry the show wasn't longer, guess the average viewer still has no idea of the work that goes into building a car like that.Tomorrow, some asshole will ask me why it's taking years to do my stuff, instead of 7 days... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

If I may suggest an idea.
Perhaps we can each send the folks at the Discovery Channel an e-mail saying how much we enjoyed this show and would love to see more of it, as well as more like it. I know I'd like to see more of what they did, they had to skip a lot to fit it into an hour, well less with commercials and all. But perhaps if they get a lot of positive feedback about this, they will think about doing more of the same type of stuff?
I loved the fact there was no bickering and whinning and complaining! And I have a lot respect for JJ after seeing the way he treated those guys.
Anywho, just a thought.......

Does anyone know if this car is going to be shown in the near future? Don't they film these shows months in advance before airing them?
It would be cool to see in person. This is easily one of the most memorable kustoms built to date. It would be awesome if they brought it up to Paso this year.

I think every person who frequents this message board had better E-mail the Discovery Channel and let them know that we all agree that we want to see more of this kind of stuff. People who know what they are doing and who are respected for their talents.
I could use a lot less of the reality-based bitch-fests and deadlines with a little bit of bike/car building thrown in for good measure like what is found in American Chopper & Hot Rod. I mean it is insulting to me that they see the success of Am. Chopper and think that BECAUSE of the bitching we watch, ugh. It is even worse that they think that they can use that formula on car building with the same success. Like we are so fuckin' thick we can't see through that. I used to kinda sorta think Boyd was an ass, now we all know he's all that and some. What a jerk off - and if his crew worked at any other place of business they'd be fired. What a bunch of dildos (with a few exceptions).
I must say that I actually like Am. Chop. but I am almost ready to start watching with the mute button firmly pressed. I like to see a project built from scratch no matter what the end goal is. Drama is for chicks....shut up and build.
Fuck the deadlines,
Fuck the bitch-fests,
fuck the "reality-based" BS,
and fuck the constantly growing list of weird builds.
Build a car (or bike) like a normal human being,
show people getting along (that actually happens you know),
and show us the details. We like to see EXACTLY how the masters work.
I know it can be done, for christ's sake we can watch people building homes and re-furbishing old furniture without all of this crap. And those shows were successful on stations with a lot less pull than the Discovery Channel.
These shows come to mind first.
This Old House
The New Yankee Workshop
Hometime
Basically we all like this episode of Monster Gararge.
Not only that we all agree that this is probably the best show we've ever seen. I say there is a market for more of this. Give us more and give us more respect....

We have seen HISTORY in the making, boys! Words can't describe what I felt!
The BEST way to show that you'd like to see more of this type of show, even more than just E-mailing them, is to BUY the tape from them!!!!
Money talks! Let them know you support them financially, and maybe they''ll wake up and give us more of the "Masters" before they are gone! (Cushenberry, the Greek, Roth, Dutch)
Best team I've ever seen, got so much more done than most of the other scenester drama queens (sorry germ!).

That was awesome. The end result is too cool. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gifI wished they had shown more on the stuff they did to the back of the car, like the taillights and quarters and they went right from the back window section being removed to it being back in place with out showing what they had to do to make it fit .It was still the best episode ever. I just wish my VCR would have rewound it with out eating the tape http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif
I watched part of it last night had to go to work so I taped it. Just as soon as I got home put the tape in. Great show! For the most part I don't watch Monster Garage but if more are like this I will watch for sure.

First time I ever watched a full episode of Monster Garage. Watching Jesse James show awe and proper respect to these gods totally changed my opinion of Jesse. Now, maybe Rides will have a good show tonight.

I just sent my email off to The Discovery Channel and indicated that I would like a response to my message. I got to thinking it might be interesting to see if they actually respond to me or to any of the other HAMBERs that took the time to let them know our feelings. If any of you read this that sent a message , how about we let the rest of Ryan's people know what is said. Just a thought.

That was the best TV show ever. Its Tuesday morning and I am still in awe. They are all masters, I cant believe the work I just saw, how Gene just jumped in like a young buck and went at it. I love it I want to watch it over and over. I have to say, not only was the work and talent amazing, but the car was fucking beutiful. I think it might now be my favorite 54 Chevy I have ever laid eyes on, everything was right about it. And Jesse gave respect to these guys says alot. I too want to know if this car will be at any shows this summer?? Does anybody know if Jesse kept this build for himself?? I would!!!

Here's what I wrote to them:
Just wanted to say that you FINALLY got it right with the 54 Chevy build on Monster Garage. Watching true masters build a real custom is what this show always should have been about. Lose the drama and bull, show how real guys build real cars instead of stupid clown garbage. We watch to see masters at work, not to watch clowns tear stuff up or act juvenile. Showing real talent building real cars works. Check out the H.A.M.B. bullitin board on the net if you don't believe me!
Several of the guys from the car club that I am in work for Monster Garage and West Coast Choppers. Yes they did work on the car after the build was over and even called in some help from a guy named Bob Grant from Northern Cal who is a total wizard with sheetmetal. But they do this after every build. Because they send all of the Monster Garage cars out to tour auto shows, trade shows and the like and they have to make the cars both idiotproof and bulletproof. They don't ever really change anything unless it is going to present a danger to someone who sticks their hand where it doesn't belong.
Funny thing is that they usually bitch about having to work on these vehicles that come off Monster Garage. This time Alex, Bobby, Josh and Ben were all happy to be there getting the car buttoned up.

Even if they can't get a dozen of these guys together every week I would love to watch a long term project take form.
I think that THEY thought they had a good idea with Boyd, but the boyd shop is so damn corporate it just sucks. I was always under the impression that Boyd was a metalsmith of godlike proportions and that the guys he hired were experts. Looks to me like the farm out anything too difficult for them and they take credit for it all in the mags. What a bunch of clowns....Fuck Boyd, lets watch the guys who actually BUILT the aluminum tub!!!

Anywho, just a thought.......

That sounds like a really good idea and you can bet I will be sending a letter in. That was the best hour of tv I have ever seen. Tears and Goosebumps for sure. I giggled like a girl when Gene was talking and laughing about how he "builds cars for a living". Those guys just tore it up like teenagers in there with the wisdom of auto-intilectual giants. MY GOD THAT WAS GREAT!

I nearly nutted when I saw this show was coming on. As I had to take an hour off from shaving my 54 Chevy just to watch real artists at work. Then I got a bug in my ass and worked until 5 in the morning.
They definatly left out a bunch of interesting work that was done on the car. Wish the show was spread out over a full week on one hour shows.
Any one know where this car is headed and in Jesse James is the owner. Imagine the amount of money this thing could fetch at auction because of the masters hands that have graced it.
It was this decades 'Rod and Custom Project Truck' brought to us in under one hour.
Still Geno, still impressed

That's exactly what I was gonna say.
Brings back thoughts of R&C's Dream Truck
Both have been sectioned, chopped, www on chromies, tube-ish grills, classically styled interior, smooth "dreamy" paint, low-long-slinky (almost like a Studebaker in the rear), and they were both graced by the hands of many masters.
Good stuff...

My two cents to Discovery:
Finally a GREAT Episode!!
MG finally got it right. No screaming, no bashing, no personality clashes, no BS.
You gathered a great bunch of customizers, and complimented it with great chassis guys and a clown for a little humor. If you can let the OCC guys take weeks to get a bike done where they farm everything but the assembly work out, you ought to be able take more than one episode when you have such talented guys doing such extensive work right before our eyes.
This episode was fantastic! It's the one episode that comes close (well actually this one surpasses) an episode of Rides. Please let us Learn from Masters instead of some director's Discovery of guys needing an anger management class.
Thanks for this great show!!!
