My minibike progress...

That's too damn cool...I was thinking of messing around with something like that, what a great design...is that conduit or pipe bent up into a frame? What's the tank off of? How are you going to drive the rear wheel?

MercMan - yeah, it's just EMT (elictrical conduit) bent with a conduit bender...and a vise and my arms and feet, anything needed to get it in the right shape. Then engine has a clutch on it...gonna weld a sprocket to the rear wheel and use a chain.

Those plates on the rear are don't have holes in em for the axle yet because I didn't have an axle.

Hey, anyone who knows about this stuff...

Using a centripital clutch...can it be installed backwards? Like with the sprocket on the inside? I know it would make installing the chain a bit more difficult, but I'm willing to deal with that.

Just trying to get the engine as close to center as I can.

Yep, it works. If the chain line is good it works either way.

(I used one to power my bike...the clutch drum drives the tire directly...never slips unless it's wet!)

You had asked for some pics of my rear axle. Here they are.
A couple of pieces of 3/4" ID tubing as spacers will position the rear wheel on the axle. I'm going to reverse my clutch to help it line up a bit better.

Anyway, if you have any questions let me know.

How rigid is the frame? I've been looking at that conduit at Home Depot and a cheap bender for my project. Lots of people told me the EMT is too flimsy for this project, but I'd like to hear from someone who has built one first hand.

If you build it right, there should be no problem with material strength. The only difference between EMT and other same size steel tube is that EMT is galvanized (so as not to rust). Gotta be careful with it because the fumes and dust from the galvanizing is -bad- news for your lungs. Just keep the workspace well ventilated. I use EMT because its cheap and readilly available at any home depot or Lowes. If there's a weld you're unsure about, just add in a brace. I still have to make a plate for the neck to give me more support there. Thats the gist of it (or at least what I've learned so far.)
