Is this the right name of what I'm looking for? I'm looking for those hooks used on old car seats to hold down the upholstery down. Hog rings, hooks... what the hell are they called again? I;m talking about the little C shaped metal rings. And where can I find them? I checked walmart of all places and got the fabric for my seats I needed, but they didn't have those hog rings. Is there a place to get them and I guess the little tool you use to clamp them down? Sorry for being so naive on this...

Hog rings. You should be able to find them at any leather supply or interior shop.

Look in your local yellow pages under "upholstery supplies".
The companies that supply the local firms that recover chairs and sofas will have them, if you don't want to order a set by mailorder / internet, and then have to wait for them to arrive.

JC Whittney has them also..they sell a complete kit with pliers and rings..Also any decent auto Parts store(Not Kragen) will most likely have them as well...

If you get them from a store other than an upholstery supply you want to get Pig Rings or Shoat rings. Hog rings are big suckers and will work but are way heavier and harder to bend with the pliers than the pig size rings. You can get different pliers to squeeze them with too. I prefer a pair with the jaws bent at about a 45º angle to the handles (when looking from the side, look more like channel locks, not like bent needle nose.)

My local NAPA even had them in their tool catalog. I don't know how much they were, but I'm sure it is the same catalog that YOUR NAPA would have. Give them a call if you can't find an upholstery shop.

I bought mine in a pet supply store. They use them to sew together wire gages for rabbits or poultry.
