hey guys,

got some questions for ya, now while the context in which im using it is of the non traditional persuasion i believe that it is aplicable in many situations, some wich may be usable in the trad since.

with that disclaimer of sorts heres my question.

im working on a *GASP* honda for a guy, hey makin money is makin money.

any ways the dash board and door panels are hard plastic like any other new car, and they have that sort of textured finish to them. id go further in explaining but youv all seen it and know what i mean.

anyways he wants to smooth the dash and door panels.

now other then taking them out of the car and the whole process of painting them, how do you smooth them??

with the groves so tiny could you just spread a small amount of bondo over it and sand it down till its just filling the groves --on doors could this possibley crack with slaming the doors shut? with such a small amount i dont know why it would but it thought i should ask.

or maybe take like fiberglass resin and glob that shit on there and just sand the shit out of it till its right.

then proced with the primer paint and clear and the sanding and what not in between.

also, if you go with the bondo or resin aproach or whatever works, whats the way to go concerning paint prep befor primer and ect?

lots of questions but yeah

how should one go about this?

thanx alot

What about trying to simply sand the plastic smooth first, then you'd even use less bondo. I think a lot of people try to use new parts, cause' if he ever used amor-all you'll have trouble getting anything to stick well.

The plastic is thick enough, you could just sand it down until the texture is gone.

A good thick coat of high-build epoxy primer should fill it in...but I'm not sure how long it would stay....

id say clean it up really well with wax and grease remover, then scuff it with scotch brite pads, then filler prime and sand, as long as the primer would stick to the plastic. When I painted the plastic dash on my pickup, I got some spray on vinyl/plastic prep shit that makes the new paint stick. Hope this helps..................Briggs

alright so you should use some degreaser and some vynel paint prep stuff.

what if you sand it down till the groves are gone like some one sugested wouldnt that get rid of the armor-all stuff?

what about using---cant recall actual name-- umm lol its flamable and clear, but they sale it at auto body paint stores to clean up bodys and help get crap out and off. that sound like its worth a shot? prolly help if i new what it was called i know.

TIA
