i was just looking at the thread by Mr42 about a 51 dash in a 42 coupe, AGAIN, and it occured to me how it was a very well thought out, explained, and photographed article (to the point where i wanted to comment on it). not only that, but i am still amazed how someone would spend hours and hours and hours working on something that (1). 95 plus percent of the people will never see, and (2). 95 plus percent of the people that do see it won't know it's anything special. that's what i love about cars and car people! i myself have worked on projects like that down to the smallest detail taking scores of hours to complete, almost solely for my own enjoyment. i really REALLY enjoy working on something like that and making sure it's perfect, and almost as much, i really enjoy reading about someone else with the same level of enthusiasm for a project and more importantly enthusiasm for their car. i know there are many more talented folks on here that i never commented on, but it just now struck me that i should say something.
thank you for letting me rant...

I know the feeling...I was asking myself that same question, "why are you doing all this to a part of the car most people will never see?". My answer is that I know it's there and that's good enough...I think that most HAMBers share that sentiment.

That's the whole gist of my tag line. When that 1 in a 100 guy comes up and comments on some obscure detail, it makes it all worth while. AAAH someone understands http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

It's kinda like using new nuts and bolts where they wont be seen. You know they are there. Details always make the difference. And when you take the time to meke things right and spend alittle extra time here and there people will notice.

With regards to the dash, it is something of pride that only the builder and a handful of others will appreciate. Thats what makes Subtle custom work so great. Every once and awhile someone else notices your hidden or subtle custom work and it makes it all worth it.
You know where your custom work is and thats whats important - and the builder/owner enjoys it!
The dash will be enjoyed by the owner for many years to come.
