Anybody else found this on ebay? 2466577397
I am looking for a frame for my 34 3W project but I'm not sure if this one is worth the time...I need some expert advice on this setup. Tube axle, 9" rearend,....

Not worth the time? Hmmmmm....Charlie, there's no way of telling if there's terminal rust damage or if the thing's sprung outta shape in a collision without someone taking a good look. I see it's stored at Lakeside which, if I remember right, is right out there snuggled up to El Cajon and not all that far from S.D proper...I usta commute daily. Why not ask a local HAMBer to whip out there and take a good look at it. Measure for diamond [diagonal corner to corner] shape and check for severe marbleing of the metal. I see the bottoms of the x-member's rails have been torched to clear some kinda big tranny [just like my 34 pickup was] but that's not necesarily a negative thing...saves you from hacking it yourself and is pretty easily repaired/modified to suit your tranny application.
That thing looks pretty good to me in the photos but it needs more inspection before I'd slap my $$$ down. Good news is, there's still 8 days on the auction...bad news is, it's already over $1000.

Thanks Rocky...I live close enough to Lakeside to go take a look at it myself, I was just wondering how much "liberty" someone has taken with the mods on this frame. I am not a 34 Ford expert but I am an engineer so when I look at that "X"-member in the center I have to wonder how much good it is if it doesn't connect each side together. Did this start out as a stock '34?
I wondering wht there are muffler clamps on the front axle?

Charlie,
The X member usually has a flat plate on top and bottom connecting them . Otherwise they would be worthless. This looks a lot like Chassis Engineering's X member. The part of the frame rails inside of the x is not boxed. I used their kit but had to make a lot of modifications to it to make it work as I had already boxed my rails. This is on a 32 frame but similar.All you need is a couple of pieces of flat stock to weld in. From the pic it looks very solid. I would loose the parallel 4-bars on the front though.

Looks like a pretty good starting point if you've got nothing already. The X member needs rejoining top and bottom, it needs coilovers on the rear. What's there looks well made though. I'd say it's a reworked original frame. Over a grand now, with 8 days to go. It'll get a bit spendy I reckon, lots of interest.

It sure looks like a state of the art frame from the late 70's-early 80's. Thr pre billit resto-rod era. Everything I see was a kit for the original 34 frame. The original x member box had to be removed for the 350 trans. (everybody used the 350 trans http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif)Missing are the 2 1/8" plates that connect the x frame rails in the middle. One on top with a hump and one on the bottom that also served as the trans mount. They bolted on. That's an original X frame. After market X members of that era were welded sections of straight channel with out any smooth curves. I'd bet a 100 bucks that the steering box is an early mustang. (can't see it but it works well) There are thousands of 33-34s still running the hyways equipped just like that.
Add up the cost of the axle,front and rear 4 bar kit, disc brake kit, drag link, pitman arm, etc., etc....

Yeah Tommy-I agree-that [perimeterONLY frame rails] with center member is 1700 dollars by itself....so a roller like that at 25oo would be a buy in this market......[Oh and dont forget shipping] that is getting as hi as buying price!

To bad you didn't see it when it was first posted. It was a " buy it now" at 2000. When the reserve was met at 1000 the buy it now went away. I saw it right when it was posted sorry and I forgot about it. Good luck it looks good from my house. If I was out west I most likely would have bid.BS

I contacted this guy to find out where he was located and to set up a time to take a look at this chassis...the guy writes back and says somebody's on their way over to buy it! Still got 8 days left on the ebay auction and this guy is selling it...I give up.

Looks like a good buy to me. If we had one in that kind of shape available here in RUSTOLAND it would sell in a heart beat. As has been stated, start adding up the compoonents, you get to $2000 pretty quick. The center crossmember has to be removed to transplant a modern drivetrain anyway so that's no problem. I'd go for it if it were me.

Soooo now I get an email from this guy sayin' that he got a call from the guy's wife who was supposed to buy this chassis, SHE said they weren't ready for this project! I guess it isn't sold after all...what a zoo

I just got another email from the guy...he will take the $2,000 buy-it-now price even though it's not listed that way on ebay any longer. I told him that I'd stop by tomorrow after 10 AM. If there's anybody interested who wants to see better pics I can take them tomorrow...
