Anyway it is Friday(EDT anyway) so being all fired up from Tech Week I thought I'd start off the post with a few from this week, and maybe a couple oldies. So here goes boys and girls:

B-Day present I just painted for my wife, Babs. 9"x12" masonite, candy yellow and orange Auto Air background with One Shot painted tiki mug. Surprise...another crappy digital pic from Barnett!! (got the light glare figured out...just couldn't get any clarity)

Dan:Try shooting a little closer and just frame the artwork in the viewfinder. To eliminate glare,I usually shoot from far away.I'm using a Sony Mavica on the standard setting(so my file won't be too large to post)and I have great luck with it.Gets great closeups too.(see pic)

I'm going to stick in a couple of closeups of work already posted to show eye detail and an older one I did for fun;just a series of teardrop shapes randomly attached on the back of a quart thinner can,and then I'm going back to bed(after the dog goes out and chases a few squirrels).

Been working on this for months! Finally finished and got a picture of it. It's done on MDF, in several pieces, and screwed together. Painted with House of Kolor paints, in real candies, pearls, graphic colors, and urethane clear. It's the first time I've done this type of airbrush work (hammer and torch). I used the Air Syndicate video as a guide to do the woodgraining in the hammer handle. I think it came out pretty good for a first time!
The only thing I didn't do was the lettering. I sent the pieces to a friend's sign shop, and he wound up doing it in vinyl, instead of hand painting it. I was disappointed.
It's going outside the shop, above the entrance door.

I don't know it these are really art, but I painted them so they could be included. My wife and I bought a house on monday and I figured I needed something to decorate my garage walls. I'm not even going to tell you what it cost because all you california guys will immediately want to move up here. Since we just spent most of our money and she's going to be spending more painting the inside of the house, I had to come up with something for nothing, so I painted these with brushes that were laying around, spray paint, and scrap wood. Don't give me a hard time, the brushes were just crap that I had, not anything like a striping brush.

First one is, obviously, the old Hot Rod magazine logo, Spray Paint and Kilz primer on pressboard. I'm going to rough it up with some sand paper to make it look old:
http://photo.starblvd.net/wayfarer/5-3-1.jpg

Second is a blown up version of the picture Adam did of the Wayfarer. He told me to do whatever I wanted with the picture. I scanned it and made a copy, then drew a grid of one inch squares over the picture. Next, using scrap wood, I drew a grid of five inch squares on the board and skeched each piece one square at a time. I learned how to do this in fifth grade, never knew it would come in handy:

I read this somewhere years ago ' You can always make time for the things you enjoy doing'
The majority of panels I stripe don't take long at all in actual painting time, but cam take a while to do, in that; on a panel I am not striping that particular constantly. That is I will gngenerally have cd on and just use the striping thing as a total release, it can be so relaxing and maybe quite therapeutic for one's state of mind. Whoops I am starting to ramble. I hope all that made sense. I could talk for hours about striping and where it can take one's mind!
Thanks for listening and I love the friday art Posts

I read this somewhere years ago ' You can always make time for the things you enjoy doing'

I agree Geoff;it really doesn't take a whole lot of time to generate a panel and listening to music is a plus.I usually have the local college radio station on that plays mostly jazz.I am not what you would call a jazz aficianado, but they also infuse a lot of blues with it.Weekends(especially Sundays)are even better in that the morning shows feature a lot of music from the 20's and 30's and the afternoons a mix of blues and a lot of other stuff.
If that fails,I have a lot of self-recorded CD's of everything from country(Laura Cantrell and Delbert McClinton)to rock(the Amazing Rhythm Aces and Little Feat)to Mojo Nixon and Robert Randolph and Stanley Jordan and dozens of others. All of it makes painting that much more enjoyable.
Well my rambling is getting out of hand and I'm headed back to the shop as a guy is bringing a truck over to flame.I figure after it warms up I can work on it tonight and have it finished in the morning when he picks it up and heads back to Buffalo.TTYL

I wanted that piece Jimie painted ... It was well done and I know it would not rust http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif ... but it was also wanted by someone with bigger pockets ... I'll get my self a Jimie next time ... and I will supply a prepared panel. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif

PPoC...Jime' is cool with it. He thinks it's funny AND he learned something! Jeff and Jime' are really inspiring to watch. I learn TONS everytime I hang out with them! But, there's so much out there to learn in general, if we just pay attention. Watching and listening to all of you, real Pinheads, was GREAT! There needs to be another get together...SOON! The next Detroit AutoRama is too far in the future.
