I need to find a master cylinder rebuilt kit for my '49 shoebox. The sooner the better. I've tried all the local chains, napa, autozone etc. No luck. Any place in town that might have it?

You could also try talking to Stacy Brown at Antique Auto Supply in Arlington. Might not be as cheap, but tell him about Dennis Carpenters $18 kit and he might match it. Or might equal what you would pay for the shipping from North Carolina...

Hey Revhead, I just recently replaced my master cylinder on my 50. Gotta a brand new one from Dennis Carpenter for about 50 bucks. Good quality and fit perfect. I had talked to Stacey at Antique Auto and all he had was a rebuilt one and you still had to do some ginding on it to make it fit plus it was over 100 dollars! Go with Carpenter and if you can afford it go ahead and get a new one and pass on the rebuild kit.

HC, My guesstimation on price must be off but I could have sworn it wasnt over 100, Ill check my reciepts. I still prefer the Carpenter merch over what Antique Auto has to offer. The "new" master cyclinder that AA had still had to be rebuilt.

Just talked to MarkX. He said try Upex Auto Supply. I called them and they said they can only get the kit. "About 15 bucks and could get it tomorrow."

Wow, thanks for all the quick replies.
Mike, where is your store at?
If a new master cylinder is $100+, it's outta my league right now. I still have to buy shocks, plug wires, oil change stuff, and the usual last minute parts that will break thursday night. My master cylinder looks like it was replaced once before and the bore looks really good. I'm hoping it will work well enough for now. Better make sure the parking brake works. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

haha start cutting them open Mike. Just kidding.
Mikeyboy, I'm gonna give you a call tommorrow if I can't find one in Dallas. Maybe I can get my lackey in Ft. Worth to pick it up for me.
Thanks again for all the help. The HAMB never fails.
