I'm interested in opinions on the Shades of the past Pigeon Forge run with the new 64 cut off date. I was wondering how it came off this year. I heard lots of grumbling before the event. Lot's more 50's cars? Fewer pre 48ers? How was it this year?

I believe the final count was 2900 or so.........down from the past numbers. The weather was perfect......low 80's on the daytime....no rain during the show.....cool at night.
IMHO........there was a lot of used car lot JUNK at the show. A lot of the stupid stuff that was always at the Motel parking lots " For Sale " paid the entry fee and drove in. Way too many Tri 5 Chevies. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif and I have had lots of 55 Chevrolets and like them......just not at Shades of the Past.
It would be interesting to know how the Grand Run turned how this past weekend. A lot of the stuff that goes there came to Shades of the Past.
The pre 49 cars were down, the flea market had less vendors and it seemed to me that the crowd was down also. I do know that the 32 Ford Show was down about 25 Deuces.
You know how in the past when you drove in on Saturday there was no place to park after about 9 or 10 in the morning.......not so in 2003. My friend has a NEW HONEY and had to play nice at the Motel until about 3 in the evening and he had no trouble finding a place to park.....not power park but park.
Will I go back.....?.........?
As long as the 32 Ford show goes on and has a dedicated place to park....... Yes ........do I think Shades of the Past shot theirselves in the foot. Absolutely.

This year was the first time for the 1964 cut off,,,,and the show did have a lot of unused parking spaces,,,,even with the "I GOT HERE FIRST" mentality ....ya know, show up three days before the show and put up a tent, bring out the yellow tape and mark off enough room to build a small house! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif,,,,,,,for their buddys that NEVER SHOW UP!
In years past the promoters(Shades of the Past) would ask the rodders to park as near as possible to the car beside you,,,not so this year!
The mix was different and I thought I was gonna hate it,but in reality it wasn't that bad,,,,If you have been to a GoodGuys event ,,it's got the same kinda look.
The numbers were down this year, could be the cut off date or just the lousy economy!
I will go back, maybe by next year i'll have a top for the roadster so the Queen of Visa don't get as wet as she did going over the mountian! HRP
