Outstanding...have you got any more? My dad raced a lot there in the late 60s and early 70s, I'd love to see as much as I can from then (I was there, too..but too young to give a shit).

Lions was just off the 405 Fwy in Long Beach close to the Harbor.Thats why the place was so fast. Right on sea level.

Yeah there are about a dozen more slides. I'll scan them and get them up.Most of them are muscle cars and funny cars. To bad my Pops is such a square now. He's not into this stuff anymore. I guess he just got old.

Here is a ticket stub from Lions that my dad gave me this past weekend. The big flyer that is the background is for the 2nd Annual Grinderama Rod and Custom Show at the NATIONAL GUARD ARMORY in COFFEYVILLE KANSAS November 10-11, 1962. It has a picture of the "Coffin Car" on the front also. I will try to get it scanned later.

Great shot of the compressed air blower setup. That was M/T if I remember right. Lions was home of the Jr. Fuelers and always stood on the side of the little guy racers. I've heard a zillion stories about how Steve Evans helped racers when their luck was down. They never forgot the fans or the little guys. Every track in southern California had it's own feel. Lions felt like home. That's why when it closed in Dec 72 it was such a big thing. It was like the day the music died except this time we saw it comming...

I was 13 in '68 when my friend's dad took us to Lions. A day I'll never forget...the sights, the sounds and the smells...those pics just hit the refresh button in my memory. Thanks, they're great memories!
