My neighbor gave me these kool photos from some archives he was given. The flame thrower photo has a caption on the back that reads:

Police in Macon, GA don't like this latest hot-rod gadget, a flame-throwing exhaust, but it's caught them with out an ordinace to turn to. And the officers can't figure how to halt use of this latest teen-age delight.

I love the look of the rail job in the far lane.

a few years ago I collected all the stuff to replicate a short wheel-base rail. I sold it when the NHRA equilavent in Australia - ANDRA - said that I could never run it as it was too short. After that I didn't want to play with them!!

The photographer on the left died within a second of this photo being shot. He was struck by the blower hurling at him from the right. The driver suffered a broken leg.

That Arrons photo is great!
Someone from American International Pictures or somebody who knew somebody at AIP had to be the hookup for the monster head and hands....They are from "Night of the Blood Beast" '58 and "Teenage Caveman ''58.....

I did a little more reserch on the pic with the guy in the monster suit. That's actually Art Afron of The Green Monster fame.

In fact that is a early verison of the car before he went on to Jet and eventually rocket powered exibition dragsters.KK

More '50's pics. This one is of a '57 Poncho shiney side down in an Indiana corn field,after the driver lost control in a street race. Both he and the driver walked away with minor injuries.
