Does anyone know if there are different depth pressure plates for 11" chevy flywheels? Long clutch fingers versus short, etc. And / or, are there long and short hydraulic throwout bearings? I have 1/4" interference between my clutch fingers and the face of the Howe Racing stock hydraulic throwoutbearing that is supposed to be used with Saginaw 4 speeds and stock cluitches. The clutch kit is 1 of 2 that NAPA carries. I ordered the other and will get a chance to look at it tomorrow. I pray that the pressure plate in it is 1/4" shorter than the one I have. Anyone with experience here, or a contact who would know the answers?

Didn't you get a pile of conical washers with the kit to adjust the thickness of the hydraulic bearing assembly??
I did.

I don't know about the clutches but I do know that the shims won't move the bearing away from the clutch.

I know this isn't an answer to what you asked, but what m/c are you using with the Howe cylinder?

So are you saying that the hydraulic throw-out bearing is too tall? I know that there is a tall, medium, and a short Chevrolet (stock, non-hydraulic) throw-out bearing, and I believe corresponding pressure plates. I think my clutch guy told me that sometimes if you are running a scattershield you'll have to play with different combinations. Most kits these days come with the 'medium' assembly.

Are you using the "beehive" style pressure plate, or the "three-finger" style?

Anyway, I buy all my clutch stuff from these guys...they can almost always answer my questions:

Might be worth a shot.

Ok, thank you for your help. I have answered my own question this morning. I ordered the other 11 clutch from NAPA. The pressure plate in this kit is almost 1/2" shorter than the other. Now I have the delta in the right directions and can use the shims to make up the difference. Hope this helps others attempting the same thing.

by the way, Antichrysler, Crease told me you were having a bitch of a time bleeding yoru kit. If your throwout bearing is lower than your master, you should have a bleed screw that you can use on yoru master instead of trying to reach dorn to the TO bearing. Hope that helps.

I will try and answer Edmurder's question and add a
little more from experience http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The master cylinder bore needs to be a smaller diameter
bore the the Howe throw out bearing. Up to 7/8 dia.
bore seems fine.

I tried to push a Howe unit with an old Ansen (chevy truck
dual cylinder) swing pedal set-up like the one in the Milner Coupe...... blew the o-ring right out of the Howe
on the third push. To big a bore. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Howe recommends a 3/4" master cylinder. That is what I have purchased and installed with a little customizing. This should be fine, shouldn't it?

Damn. That's exactly what I had in mind. Oh well... I'll just have to fab up a bracket so I can use the 60's truck slave cylinder. It's cheaper anyway.
