After years of wanting, and wishing I sealed the deal with a contractor today. 24 X 42, two story. No more renting shop space, I'll be building cars at home now! I know it's not big by some peoples standards, but I work alone, so I'll have enough room for a project of my own, and some customer work. I'm pretty excited, should be up and running by the end of April.

All you all doing this are way out there. Meaning not here. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
With what we've seen here, you'll pay the bills. Congrats and Good Luck.
Oh, and accept Triple AAA, they're usually easy.

CONGRATULATIONS!!! I would give anything for a shop that size, working out of a 2-car garage in the burbs is the pits. Enjoy your new shop...

My garage is 8 feet by 16 feet, and I fit my rod, my work bench, two welders, gas torch, tools, radio, steel stock stash, heater etc in there, and I can actually manage to work in there too! I was thinking of putting a couple of car posters on the walls, but its just toooo small. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
You still think you got size problems dude????? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Congrats Tin,i'm just getting quotes on another shop myself! Get this..according to our city bylaws your not allowed to have cars all over your OWN dam yard!!!(go figure)!! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
So now i'm looking at building a 26x80 in the back yard cause i can barely move in the 32x36 i got now!!!
Morrisman;i envy you,if i'd just focus on one car,i'd actually get something done!! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

HELL YEAH.... I was trying to find a photo of our new family shop for the post last week... Get that building up and enjoy it. I went to our new family (Dad, Uncle and myself) shop today and finished the hole they'd cut to hoist mills into the loft. You'll spend about half the time working on your cars and half your time working on the shop but it's all good... Congrats...

Thanks for the encourgement! It's a little scarry spending this kind of money. I should have done it 10 years ago, but shit always got in the way.
Yes Denise, I'm still teaching, but I've never shut down the rod shop. I've been working it part time for the last few years. Plan is to move it home, then eventually build my own stuff, and cars to sell.(teachers are not that well paid,...but I'm not complaining!)
I've got to get to workin, I've got 10 years worth of shit I've been collecting to pack and move so I can knock down my old shed! My God I'm a pack rat!

If you need help with anything Eric, let me know. Congrats on the new shop. What part of town do you live in? Oh yeah, and there's another lift for sale, I think it's a four poster. It's in Coeur d Alene's exchange type paper. Go to google and search "exchange spokane" the first thing that pops up is their website. Search the auto parts in the exchange and the Coeur d Alene stuff appears at the end of the search. Again, congratulations.

I am planning on building a 24'x30' within the next couple years. Wife won't let me take up anymore backyard than that. Thats allright though, i'm only going to put one Garage door on it. That way she can't park her car in it and take up my space... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I love the garage posts. This is about the point in the post where I see the guys talking about how tiny their garages are and think, "Hey, I don't have a garage at all! I'm building my roadster out of someone else's garage, which is an 1 hour and 45 minute round trip!"
Which is true, but not likely to gather much sympathy. In fact, now I expect Old Beet to pipe up and say, "Garage?! Who needs a damn garage?!" http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Now that takes dedication dude. I must admit though, I admire English guys who build a car on their front drive, with hand tools, and thru the winter! Or in some remote lockup, with no heat or power http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

I have been working on a 24 x36 shop space in the backyard for about two months now. the roof went up today and now o the final little stuff then back onto the coupe to get it done. Its the shizzel to have your own space. Good luck, the money you spend will be a long and hazzy memory when its all done.
