The economic recovery is taking effect here. Must be because my hotrod business is picking up, we have more jobs now than the last two years. I am turning away work or putting it on hold for a while where I would gladly take it in before. So here goes the question.

Are there any HAMB guys interested in relocating to Phoenix AZ? No guarantee of a job right now, just putting out feelers.

I would like to see qualifications: welding ability, creativity, and some metal working knowledge. I prefer to hire young guns but an old dog may fit in too.

Send your resume' to:

In case this was not clear already, Steve is a good guy...
If I was a young gun living in a cold climate I would jump at the chance to work for him.
Advice for who ever is going to do it, be prepared fo a steep learning curve, there is a lot of knowledge in that shop...

If I had a guaranteed job I'd LOVE to move to Phoenix. Too bad I don't have any real welding training, all I've got is creativity http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

So far this is the only place I have advertised this. If I get resume's I know where they came from, adding you HAMB name will put an identity to your real name.

Thanks for the kudos guys!

I know of some good fabricators in Cali but they won't move unless its worth their wild. Phoenix is getting costly too to live nice rentals start at a grand. How is pay calculated piece work (data Sheet)or hourly?

Steve, I hope you get the person you're looking for. From what I've been able to learn about your operation from being on the HAMB this is one GREAT opportunity. If I wasn't so old and so well established here I'd be on the next plane to take the janitors position. There are not many times something like this is offered and I can't believe you won't be swamped with inquiries.
HEY!! It's warm, there to. Maybe I will send an application. hehe!!

I am with you Deyo. I wish I had some real world experience other than my learn as I go.

Let me tell you guys, El Polacko is a straight up guy. Everytime I have been to his shop, not only have I been treated well, but I have garnered knowledge that inspires me.

For those thinking about moving to Phoenix, it is not too expensive if you know where to look. Just do not plan on buying anything close to downtown unless you want to live in a neighborhood that has not turned historical yet. Deals can be had.

Ok, I am getting a really good response.

Some basics about Phoenix.

Fifth or sixth largest city in the Nation. Close to Califoria without the high cost of living, although with all the Califorinians comming over here driving up housing prices that is changing. The average home price is still in the $150s. Apartment rentals range from $500.00 to $1000.00 monthy depending on what you want.

Weather is unbeatable most of the year. August and September are our most miserable months due to monsoonal flow from Mexico but result in some huge dust storms and lighting storms that will amaze you.

A lot of you are asking about pay, I don't want to put a number on anything yet. But lets say this, if you are dreaming of retirement in a year or two, forget it.

Don, the NASCAR thing fell through and I am really disapointed. Those jackasses rode me like a rented mule and went with someone who claims they can build those cars for nearly half of what I could. So I sent them a bill for "consultation work" and they haven't paid me yet.

Some relavant links for Phoenix:

AZ Central, news and classifieds supported by the lamest newspaper in the nation (http://www.azcentral.com/)

New Times, alterative weekly for entertainment and very liberal news (http://www.phoenixnewtimes.com/)

East Valley Tribune, our best newspaper not distributed valley wide (http://www.aztrib.com/)

im new on the board, but ive seen some of your posts ,it sounds kinda like your a one stop shop....

if its not to dumb of a question, what is kinda outline of what you do there, and specialise in?

what kinda skills high on list, which ones are perks,

pay is a dumb question to ask cause obviously you dont know what the person is capable of .....im guessing in most shops, if your capable of sweping and some welding that would be7-10hr and if your a "jimmy shine"type maybe somewhere around25.hr.but is there any benifits like insurance ? or is it like every othe shop ive worked at, and thats on employees shoulders ...

Pretty much on the money so to speak,,,

My antique website, click here (http://www.industrialchassisinc.com)

What we do is fabricate frames and crossmembers for Classic Trucks. However, I started out doing custom fabricated suspensions for difficult fit cars. Lots of 54 Plymouths and Oldsmobile coupes to be precise.

I have always done a considerable amount of installation work and when I first started I did turn key cars. I boiled every thing down to the minimum when the economy tanked. I couldn't take it any more and even sought out other employment. But now we are in a recovery mode and the boom of hotrod shops that popped up a few years ago fizzeled out and few if any are still standing. Industrial Chassis however has been around since 1995 and still going. I have garnered a loyal clientel willing to wait (up to years) to get a car in the shop.

Right now I have nine cars in house being worked on. Two of which are "side work" so to speak and one is mine. I have two more coming in this week alone. About four or five more waiting for a date to come in. Meanwhile we are fabricating complete chassis for 1953-1956 Ford F100s, 1947-1959 Chevy trucks and are getting ready to produce fifties International Harvester frames. Also on the list are Dodge and Studebaker trucks, not high volume but nobody makes anything for those trucks.

There really isn't a shop in town that specializes in ground up rod building, or all in one stop type places. I am not really sure I want to go their either. There are plenty of shops that cater to the "streetrod" market like Arizona Streetrods, Rod Palmer. He builds a good car but they end up formula cars. You know, SBC-700, 9", MII, smoothed off stock body work. Very conservative stuff.

We come at hotrods from a little bit different take. I think there is some room in this town for me to do some oddball creations. Jimmy Smith keeps feeding me crazy ideas begging to be built, I have a few of my own that need to hit the streets too. These projects are going to need some young blood, a "shine" kind of guy would be great for publicity but I would love to take on a "birdman" or "killroy" if I could afford to do so. Unfortunately I don't have the time to dedicate anymore. Being a business owner does that after a while. So I need someone to work hand in glove with me to execute these projects. But I can guarantee you, I am no Boyd.

So at this point someone who is cabable of light structural welding and fabricating. Sheetmetal repair and modification,

Switchblade,

I did get your Email and was waiting to to see a few more responses before I replied to everyone. Honestly I get a lot of young guys interested in entry level positions. Few want to do what it takes to learn this trade, they all want to be overnight sucesses. I will keep you in mind and will probably make a decision early next week.

My work is piling up.
