what is you best guess at a ballpark on building a mostly stock BBC from a junkyard tallblock. I have one that I am still considering building but I dont want it to come out costing $3000 US , am I crazy or can this be done for less?
thanks
Ian

You can build a BBC for about as much as it would cost for a small block, unless you need some serious head work. Putting valve guides in a Big Block can be expensive if that has to be done, otherwise the parts are about the same, assuming that the crank, pistons, etc. in the block you have are usable.

Building a BBC shouldn't cost you an arm and a leg as long as you aren't building for serious HP. Speed costs money...
I have a young friend that just built a 396 (he didn't want your standard 454 http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif) and he's in for less than 1,500.00, including the cost of the mill.
That's overbore, new oil pump, Kieth Black pistons, camshaft, crank turned, ... He still has to come up with a carb and intake.
Looks reasonable to me. And I'm frugal.

you should be able to build one yourself for a little over a thou..

you can get an exchange rebuild for about two grand

or have a decent one built for about four.
