Well it's kinda OT, but fits right in with Nads current "doo-rag: thread

From an AP article that ran tonight (3/4/2004):

Riderless Motorcycle Injures Two Near Daytona Beach, Fla.

Mar 4, 2004

The Associated Press

HOLLY HILL, Fla. (AP) - A motorcycle with no rider roared down a street for almost four blocks before sideswiping an oncoming truck and knocking down two people on another motorcycle. The owner of a new 2004 Kannon V8-Chopper had jumped off the motorcycle Wednesday after the throttle jammed, police said.

Stan Hughes, 41, of Oklahoma, was charged with misdemeanor careless driving, police said.

The injured bikers, Kevin Moyer, 45, and Beth Sattizahn, 38, both from Pennsylvania, were taken to Halifax Medical Center. Moyer was in fair condition Thursday, and Sattizahn was in stable condition in intensive care, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Holly Hill is just north of Daytona Beach, which is in the midst of its annual Bike Week, which attracts tens of thousands of bikers from around the nation.

this guy never thought of turning the ignition off???

reminds me of a guy in high school who had a brand new road runner and the throttle spring came off while sitting at the local drive in burger joint; instead of calmly reaching down and turning off the key he jumps out, runs to the front, pulled the two hood pins, opened the hood, took off that gihugey air cleaner, and pulls the linkjage back. by then it had been running wot for at least a minute. good thing for him that big block mopars are pretty tough engines.

the guy is riding a bike, a BIKE, with 500 horses and a jammed throttle, and you give him shit for jumping off?

fuck, there's no way i'd stay on it...

maybe he could have laid it down first. or maybe they should supply them with a key chain like on PWC's http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I read that, unbelievable.
I guess it's better to jump off mind you.
When my mom first saw my bike, she asked if it had seat belts.

I have also partaken in riderless vehicle shenanigans. There was the time I started my '34 from outside and it jumped into gear and plowed into the car port.

Man... there should be some kind of special license test to be able to ride a 1,300-pound motorcycle with over 500 freaking horsepower. That's insane.

yes, a bike rider in a social environment like bike week has a responsibility for his machine similar to the responsibility a pilot has at an air show, first thing is the safety of those around you! this becomes even more important when its 500 fucking inches in a motorcycle.

if you don't understand this you have no business controlling ANY kind of machine. that guy should have dragged himself to his death.

Thats incredible. He jumped off the thing? What a fucking dumbshit.... Why couldnt he shut it down? What if that thing were to ride on down the street and hit a little kid, or a stroller or something?!? I dont care if it was a panic reaction , he still should have handled it differently. POS! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif
