Got some new stuff for this week.
I hate that I missed the discussion on digital artwork last week. And thanks to all the guys that agree that it does take talent to do artwork on the computer. I have all the respect in the world for the guys that do the mechanical artwork. I wish my skills were up to par w/ some of the guys on here when it comes to striping, drawing or painting. You guys are amazing. here is a new piece for this week. And thanks to Rich for posting some work I had done for him. here is a clear shot of it also. Glad you liked it!
oh yeah, redraw/trace in Illustratrator is cheating.

Thanks 1 shot...The paper is just cheap pressboard. I had cut a bunch up for mailers for a project and ended up cutting 'em too small, so I have a stack of 'em laying around and figured I use em. The pro use stuff called canson paper...

i do scan a lot but what i do is draw over top of the images. w/ the trace tool i spend more time fixing things. i just draw in the vector program and it eliminates 90% of the jaggedness that come along w/ the trace tool. my sketches are pretty rough from time to time so that is the way I have found that works for me. i need to just polish out the sketches. might try that for next week.

Pardon the wheels, but it's a concept for a client's ride... a take on lowrider meets street custom meets good wheel sponsor.... It's an older piece, but I figured I'd share it anyway.
And Hidden, I agree... trace tool in Illustrator IS cheating. I strated using the pen tool in Illustrator after losing much of my dexterity to a degenerative nerve and muscle disorder... So now it's sketch, scan, pen tool... a bit more involved, but sometimes technology's pretty good!
BTW-- GREAT work as always everyone!

Humbled by your compliment! I agree, though... there's a time and place for every tool... and that auto-trace monster is certainly a specialty tool...

Wow, great Art Show, as usual!
I finally got a chance to finish up another Desk Top Art Work model. This one is # 76 in the series. She's all boxed up and will be heading for Roothog's to be used as a HAMB Drags give away for a door prize or something! If you want a shot at winning this one, you have to be at the HAMB Drags and be the lucky person. I will be there myself and will have a Certificate Of Originality if the winner can catch up with me (and I don't forget it...)
This one measures about 6" long, is about 3" high and is about 3" wide.

And the last one and my favorite:
http://www.zumografx.com/Renders/Zumo53white.jpg
I have to admit I trace/redraw as well. But I don't use the "trace" tool. Not sure I have used it be for. I use the pen tool and use my anchor points to manipulate the lines. It's not easy and take patients. Over time though I have learned to do some things with out redraw and just draw "free hand" with the pen tool.
On this one I "traced" the main outlines and just eyeballed the rest.

Wow, there is some wicked cool stuff here this week!!
Logo I did for Kevin's and my shop. We are both into WWII aircraft and history and also have much respect for the men (and women) who went off to war (some never to come back) and came back and helped to give birth to hot rodding as we know it today. Plus, Kevin was an aircraft fabricator in the Air Force (still is in the National Guard) so the mark fit well. The wing motif was influenced from a WWII maintence group insignia.

Most of my lettering brushes are Mack series 189. but I'm not sure if I letter like "normal", I took this photo just foolin around 1 day and it shows how I hold the brush and work from the bottom of the letter to the top. I've never used a maul stick, just didn't like it so never wanted one . A lot of guys letter top to bottom , but for that kind of font, I always go backwards.

Blake, that piece is COOOOL! When the hell did you start doin that stuff?!
Thanks... I guess I started last night! I projected the Odd Rod card onto the canvas and outlined it, so it was basically paint-by-numbers... not exactly art, but something I wanted to try.
