Headlight & Wheel combo question

Starting with a totally stock, but dropped black '28 Model A Tudor Sedan would you prefer a set of stock A headlights and fluted '28 fluted lenses mated with a set of orange 40-spoke Kelsey Hayes rims & big 'n little blackwall Firestones or a set of BLC's with chrome rings and a set of 16 inch black steelies with '40 Deluxe caps & rings with the same 'stones? I have both, was leaning toward the first scenario, but saw it on a roadster and wasn't that hopped up on it after all. The second deal is what's on the Doane Spencer car and I think it will contrast more with the little stock A.

The wires and firestones now reside way up in the attic and the smoothies are on for good. Going to run the stock headlights down low on a a cut up A bone headlight bar...

Thanks for the visual wideglide. My car has the EXACT same combo as your first photo (straw colored '35 wires & 6.00x16s) and it doesn't do anything for me.
I guess I will definitely go with the solids (5.00x16 up front & 7.00x16 on the rear). Any plans to lower the rear? How are you going to do it? Thanks Jim

I have a slight preference for the Kelseys (but you knew that), but they're both good looks. Why not set it up both ways and switch off once or twice a year?

Jim the wires looked good but the colour was awful. I have a photo of a stock A sedan (fenders) with kelseys and it looks great. I don't plan to lower the rear of the car, firstly I want to drive it sooner than later and secondly in person it looks killer at that height... HOT ROD... I'm sure you have the book? In the book is a great paragraph on stepping A frames...

Go with the wires. heres my 29 with 17" wire on the back. Will be puttin a set of 16" wires on front.

Jim, First scenerio wheels would be best I think.. if you are going to run the 4 banger and keep it an early styling that is what i would suggest.. as for headlights, run what you suggested or put a set of large 32 commercial ones on it..

The answer to your question is...YES! Do you wear the same clothes every day? I set up my head light wires with the old ford bullet connectors. It might take 20 mins to change the lights and the look. Changing all 4 wheels might take a little longer.

Yes George, I love the Early Times look- finished the story for the Rodders Journal on them last week. But this is MY car, and I want it to look like MY car. I will build an "Early Times" car someday, this ones not it.

What, are you saving that dead-nuts EarlyTimes look for? That "perfect" A that will come down the pike sometime? Why not do the chrome Buicks with BnL radials or red line tires?! YOU are the guy for this. Of course I will hate you if you do....

Sorry Rudy, I am really picky about the sheetmetal and I have tried to work my way up to the BEST body I could afford. Ends up this last one- the Tudor was described as the best, but turned out to be the worst. I've tracked down all the pieces to make it nice, I just don't like patch panels and bondo-ed up cars when there is still nice cheap sheet metal out there. So the current project IS a '28 Tudor Sedan with an original restored chassis, dropped axle, juice brakes and a few pre-WWII goodies. I knew I would never fit in either of the pickups and would sell them to buy a Tudor Sedan. I just have a Tudor now a little earlier than I planned.

Yes, my Tudor could eventually get the Early Times look as I have the necessary super rare Moto-Meter & wings that came from Joe Barnett after he owned it for over 50 years, the Buick wires and a '57 Power Pack small-block. But for now the car is running a banger, and if I decide to chop it it won't be an "Early Times" car.
