Just finished a couple of pics and no one else has started yet so....
the first is the finished pic of the sketch I put on last week
"Doris" Ratty's 32 roadster pick up (with Ratty driving and someone elses wife in the passenger seat!), remember this is England and our cars are righthand drive and so Ratty has the goatie not some ones wife!
and Louie Battencourt's 49 merc (original bodywork and chop by Gil Ayala and, as in the pic the 1st makeover by Barris) the source pic shamelessly picked from the HAMB!

Here's a few things I've been working on this week in addition to the grunt work.

I decided that I need a new hat as my other one is several years old now. This is about as close to finished as it's ever going to be.

The next piece is a trophy I'm doing for the Billetproof Michigan show. For best use of pinstriping.

The next piece is an old creeper a friend of mine bought the other day.Going to be a wall hanger.

The last is a tour pack I did(and just finished re-touching because the clear pulled the stripes).

I always thought that a '59-'60 studebaker would make a cool gasser, so i did a quick sketch, I like it, maybe a finished drawing will follow!

I don't like to post my art usually, but Tingler has had me frothing every week (hat's off bro).

I was sketching a little doodle on an 11x17 sketch pad one day and I liked the lines...so I kept it up. I didn't have any colored pencils and I didn't wan to use those messy (but fun) oil pastels. Instead I started with a regular ball point pen...black I believe. Next I got out a blue one, and one thing led to another and before you knew it I had an all ink pen drawing.

I did this baby one stoke at a time guys - it took me a few weeks worth of sitting on the couch and scratching away while whating TV out of the corner of my eye.

Hope you like. Unfortunately I had to take a pic of the origional then print it out at a smaller scale - then scan that to post it to the web. I am actually surprized - it doesn't look too bad.

Enjoy:

btw, good showing as usual.

Dude, you need to do us all a favor and post more often. I can't believe you got that kind of texture/detail from friggin ballpoint pens. Of course, I have trouble drawing a crooked line with one. You should contact Bic or Parker and see about becoming their new pen spokesperson. Seriously.

Oh, and I hope all that "scratching away" didn't impact your television watching too much? I would kill to be able to draw 1% as good as that, with FULL concentration. (Editor's Note - full concentration would be on the drawing and not the killing). But if I did get caught, I could say that the music of The Police is to blame, because Sting spoke to me and said "you could turn a murder into art".

I can't say I wasn't inspired. Seeing the tikis you and a few others post regularly made me think, hmm I wonder if I could do that....

I was sketching out some things for ideas for a shift knob for my next hot-rod. I had started a few skulls and stuff but wasn't feeling it. I saw a few tikis I really liked and thought I'd give it a go.

This is my first tiki drawing. Next one will be in 1-Shot. I ran a couple of pens dry on this bad boy - it'd just be faster with paint!

So basically - just take my compliment and shut the hell up!! LOL. :P :)

...wish I had more to post, all I have on my hard drive is the paintings you've all seen before.

I've been working on doing a monster t-shirt in AutoCAD....trying to export to Illustrator to color it....

And hey 1-Shot, your stuff rocks even more knowing you use the pen tool in P-Shop.... I was taught that way, but became more comfortable with the pen tool in Illustrator (sketch it out, scan it in, vector the hell out of it...)

Everybodys stuff is top notch!

On the vector subject. I scan it in using photoshop, place the image into illustrator and redraw it so its all vectors. That is the method that I teach my graphic design students in my intro to digital applications at the University of Missouri, KC.

Illustrator has an auto trace feature but you have to clean up a bunch of stray anchor points when its done. Takes more time than redrawing it for me.

It's called progression bro....

Why get all messy and blow your whole wad on media that gets all used up when you can use the PC and it never runs out of color.

Plus it can be replicated ad nausiom to infinity!

Brush - back me up here!

I know the question was rhetorical but man it takes just as much talent and knowledge...

O'course I believe that anyone can make art - you just have to keep doing it to get good at it! I went to college to do this stuff, so I got a lot a practice way back when - but when I first got to school I realized quickly I NEEDED to practice. There are a lot of talented fuckers out there who you'll never hear from, if you want to stand out you have to be able to sacrifice some major time to hone the skills.....I was too busy drinking my body weight in beer.....

Life a bitch, right?

Ohh well - I'll get over it. The life of a tormented artist - sheesh

But seriously - digital art (giclee) ( ihttp://www.gicleeprint.net/abtGclee.shtm ) is nothing to sneeze at. It's as valid as digital photography - which was scoffed at by tradtional film photogs, but now is THE medium to work from. And it makes sense for all of the same reasons.

Take it seriously...uhh just incase you weren't joking.....

Wise words.

Its my experience (what little I have) that when you are doing stuff in photoshop, you still need a good "eye". You still need talent.

However, I still like doing stuff the old fashioned way....which will NEVER go out of style.

There is just something to be said about the physical movements that go into painting or drawing. That "dance" is cool......It puts the artist into a trance.

Best drug on the planet.

The computer can do that too.....but in the end the computer is just a tool, just like the airbrush (which is skoffed at too).

Use the tool when you need it. The more tools the better....obviously.

But if we liken it to automotive work,,, a good way to look at it is this: a vacuum guage is useful, but you don't use it to loosen a lug nut.

You gotta know when to use which tools for what.

I'm rambling.

I here ya Broman and have your back.
Digital art is just using another tool......such as a brush, pencil or pastel.
The only stuff I post here is digital stuff..... cause I am a lazy prick.I have little time to scan and my scanner is waaaay too small.I do as much traditional as I do digital......
Using a computer is is just another tool in the box.
But.....
I have seen so much shit done on the computer and traditionally that sucked it makes my head spin(not so much here, but in my illustration world.)
Too many think the computer makes it so easy......and there sooooooo wrong.
practice,practice,practice.....
Too many think they can scan an image and trace it out in a vector program.....no thought,no beauty.....mindless.
Art(any style or format) needs ALOT of time.It is a selfish business....cause you need to spend so much of your time by yourself.
A wise instructor once told our structural drawing class "Your gonna make a million mistakes in your careers.....better get started."
And don't get me started on the abstract fine art world.......Like Robt. williams once said "The biggest scam in the 20th century"

I apoligize for the rant now.
:)

Broman is a wise man

Thanks Broman ,TINGLER , Brush for the info.
It was an honest question, not meant to offend. I really dig the 'digital' drawings/art.
I'm going to check out some of these programs this weekend.
I've been drawing cars for 30 years , since I was 3. Always took art classes in school 'cause it was an easy grade...hahahaha. But almost exclusively with just a pencil and paper.
I hadn't drawn much in the last 8 years or so until I found the *Friday Art Show*. All the artists here have saved me and got me back into drawing. Also helped me try new things like airbrushing and pinstriping.
THANKS GUYS!!:D

Thanks Broman ,TINGLER , Brush for the info.
It was an honest question, not meant to offend. I really dig the 'digital' drawings/art.

I am really envious of you "computer art" guys. I have done some stuff on corel draw (instrument faces, saw the ones I wanted, saw the price, after I stopped coughing, drew my own and put them on the existing guages it probably took about the same time as swopping them for new ones!) But just can't seem to get it right most of the time. I have photo shop but can't use it as I havn't had the time to learn but know I really must. The thought of being able to combine my hand done stuff with photos and other art really appeals. Any tips/help sites would be appreciated.
Your stuff just rocks.

The computer may be an important tool these days, but we will never have an electronic artist with a name like Picasso, Matisse, Monet, Renoir, Ed Roth, Von Dutch etc..........

Doc.

wanna bet........

exactly! Here is a sample of my roomates "digital" artwork a digital portrait of himself...first off its not traditional hot rod art...but he is way better than I, although he isn't into cars...so I guess he's not as cool...haha

It was all done in photoshop with a wacom tablet and patience!

...so as many others have said digital art should be credited just as much as traditional artists...even though you may not get dirty while creating the art...its still just as difficult if not more!

Hey guys,

digital art is just not pressing some buttons and bam! You have some art. I grew up like most of the artist drawing with pencils. When I was in school in the early 90's the computer was really starting to come on strong. I still had life drawing and illustration classes. When I illustrate on the computer I still use many of the techniques and ideas as I would use on a traditional illustration. The computer just offers way too many advantages with the ease of corrections, color changes, layers, special effects and many more items. Heck, I even draw something out real quick and scan it and redraw it in the computer.

Just recently I broke out my trustly old drawing table for the kids to use. Heck, I am kind of itching to get back on it myself...when I have the time.

You can see the attached images, the monster drawing going to the finished computer illustration. The entire Nova except the rims was all done in Illustrator.

that is a extremely talented guy, i thought it was a photograph first, altough i think it looks too perfect... handsome guy btw, looks alot like me :p
the truck done with markers is also beautiful...

and 40studedude, i'm off to buy some sharpies now... great work!

I'll post some art myself as soon as i get hold of a scanner or finish some real art, pencil sketches don't work well with my crappy digital camera
