I have a '55 265 in my truck. Those first-year SBC's didn't have a full flow oil filter, but there was an accessory filter available that mounted on the intake manifold.

I need advice from somebody who is familiar with that particular kind of remote filter, its plumbing and flow. Anybody here who can help?

I know I'm not the oldest guy on this board. Am I the only one to use a '55 engine?

probably not the only one to ever use a '55 265.
The remote filter worked fine, but you could use a newer remote oil filter and accomplish the same purpose with a spin on, instead of a cartrige.
If your going for the look than your'e stuck with finding the old stuff but otherwise if it were me I'd go with the later stuff, and just hide it somewhere.

Tony, my dad has one on his Nomad. You know where to find him and he'd be glad to let you check it out. I see them at swap meets still quite often- NOS ones are not even impossible to find- That's what my dad's was when he bolted it on to his 265.

I had one. I think it picked up oil from the fitting on the block above the timing cover. I think in drained back into the engine thru a fitting in the intake manifold. I think it was near or in front of the carb on the pass. side?

Thanks, guys. Jim, I'll call Pat and go take a look.

Andy, what I have looks exactly like what you've described. The mystery is that there is no flow. I had thought that it was perhaps plumbed incorrectly, but now I'm thinking that something is blocking the oil gallery.
