View Full Version : The plexi experiment was a success, pics.
I did the back mail slot on my '34 Ford using clear Lexan with the cheap $14.99 Autozone tint. It came out great. I'm fixing to do the rear quarter windows today. I'm going to do the doors too, but I have to fabricate some channels. I'm going to use a simple strap system to raise and lower the Lexan. I don't have window winders or anything and I can't see spending the money people ask for '34 Ford parts on my jalopy.
So I can highly reccomend using this cheapo method for making colored Lexan windows for your heap.
I've also got another pic for all of you. It's a piss take on the fabled SCTA. No disrespect intented. My good pal Paul sent this to me in the mail today It's a sticker that says Sutton Coldfield Timing Association, some of you Brits might know that Sutton Coldfield is a borough of Birmingham, England.
Lets just say that there are no dry bed lakes in Birmingham.
Apparently they are going to come out with 'Bourneville Speed Week' soon, Bournville is the chocolate producing area of Birmingham. I got quite a chuckle from this.
Paul, thanks for being my buddy.

I thought you were going to put PW in that coupe of yours.. I know I say you buy that new set at the Turkey Run last year.. It was the same time you bought the power trunk opener.....................
shows a pic of the manual set up when you get it done....
Boones, PW, I'm confused?????
At last some action on my doorstep!
Oh dammit it's a piss take.
Very funny though.

I think "power windows"... To go along with the power trunk opener he accuses you of buying with them.
You're not a closet power lexan window guy, are you Nads?
tragig, I get it now.
They call 'em PAWs in England, as in 'Power Assisted Windows'.
And I'm actually a closet Latex guy.

none of my coupes have ever had a back window in them... is it true that it really cuts down on the noise? and Jesus that thing is cut down low!
Paul
low'n'loud believe it or not, yeah the noise level is way lower. As far as the car's concerened, she was chopped WAY low many moons ago. The body's pretty much the way I bought it. She's uncomfortable, she's tight but she's a little piece of hot rod history, and that's how she's gonna stay. If'n I was starting with a virgin body there's no way I'd chop her 5 1/2"s.
Boones, ol' pal, I'll see you in November.

Hey Nads, I'll see ya for the Turkey Run in November too. I'll bring you back that California Car Duster and the Cry Baby Dolls I borrowed from you.
See ya, -Abone.
PS. I think I found those dildos you wanted too!
Cool Abone, we'll see you there. It's gonna be a good time. Bring yer own beer because we always run out.
I got the quarter windows done as well. It came out really good. I'll do the door windows soon too, because the drive out to Daytona last year was freezing cold. Temperatures were in the low 30s which is cold enough to freeze your ears, toes and fingers in a windowless car.

Nads-
I'm planning "strap" style side window lifts on my rod too. I'd appreciate seeing how you (or anyone else here) work out the details. I'm wondering if one strap in the center of the window will suffice to keep it solidly in place, and how to fasten or tie-oft the strap once the window is up.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Stan, I'll use just one strap, my windows are really small. I'm going to use seatbelt webbing and have a simple system that use a hook and a grommet. It should work, there's nothing to it. I'm thinking about making machine turned aluminum door panels, light, cheap and easy.
Wish me luck.

I've seen seat belts used with the buckles in drag cars. Might be a bit bulky in a small car though. The belt with the flat part was attached to the window and the buckle to the door near the floor. Just pull the belt down and latch it to keep the window up.

There is a guy here in town that has a coupe with leather straps on his windows pulls them up and clips them in. He uses a button snap on the top and bottom. Up snap-down snap. He is also running felt channel to keep the vibrations out. Just another crapp idea

The snap fasteners with seat belt webbing sounds like it may be a good way to go. Keeps the end from flapping around when the window is down.
What in the heck? This post is 2 years old, yipes.
