Well, I made the mistake of joining up and posting without doing an "intro post."
I have been warned of many terrible things to come if I do not do this soon. So in order to escape the inevitible wrath of the intro gate keeper I post the following: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

I live in northwest Ohio. Uuuuuuh.....I like cars....Uuuuum.... I like loud, fast, and shiny stuff.
I have been wrenching on stuff for years and and I am a lubrication valve train timing boost electronic hydra-super something expert employed by the national security division of NASA and the NRA.....sorry... kinda got away from myself. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Ok, so I'm your every day guy in his mid thirties who has been busting his knuckles putting together stuff everyone else said wouldn't work every since I can remember.

I am currently playing with a 1951 2door fastback Pontiac.
I have built and installed a 355/350 combo backed up by a 10 bolt GM rear. The 10 bolt is stuffed with an Auburn posi drivin off of 3.73 Richmond gears. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I have the usual dual exhaust finished off with Dodge Viper s/s tips.

Please tell me the "intro Gods" will smile upon me now. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Welcome. Lose the wheels and tires. Install some Fat ASS whitewalls on smooth chromies with baby moons. Otherwise it looks good. Just my opinion. Dean (Oh, lower it in the back some more) http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

You will be happy to know that the smoothies along with 235/70/15's for the rear are on the way.
I have also lowered the rear by 2 inches since that pic was taken.

Maybe "escape from justice."
Or how about "just- one more dollar.?"

Hey, I thought they were cool. I was looking for some fake DOHC valve covers to go with them. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Actually they were on the car when I got it. They are next on the list to go. However, the drivetrain took priority. I would rather look bad and go fast than look cool and be a slug.

Nope, but it appears to be an aftermarket/poly piece.
It will be gone if I ever get around to chopping the top.

The car looks pretty much like it did when I bought it last year. Last winter most of my efforts were concentrated around the drive train: engine, rear end, trans, rear leafs, etc.

Don't thank us yet...the rest of us aren't done ripping you...or your car!

So what's the plans for the car...got a bit of "chopping the top"..."smoothy rims" out of a few of those posts...and the firewall reflecting shit won't be there anymore...BUT, the interior HAS to go...and the mirrors, and it needs some fender skirts...and some striping....and well, you get the pic, rite?

AND I never did read if you fessed up to being a real lawyer...I got the part about wrench totin'...just wonderin' if I missed it?

FWIW, welcome to the HAMB...hope you got a thick skin!

I like the interior...reminds me of the curtains in the "viewing room" down at the funeral home...It looks "comforting"

And I'm in awe of anyone who can put up a refecto-firewall that reflects without looking like a funhouse mirror around the mounting bolts.

Oh, Welcome to the HAMB by the way, a little late since Ryan hisself already did

Now the molded, painted bumpers have got to go along with the flush-fit turnsignals and the whale mouth grill, needs to be set back or something, set back of the garage maybe.

Have fun chopping that top...
Have you chopped a fastback before?
Ask bout that here and you'll get 57 different ideas on how it should be done "right" (mine will be the only really "right" one.) http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Well, number one. I ain't no lawyer!
Number two: I see a traditional roll pleated interior in the future if I keep the car, something in grey.

I would also like to go with some DP90 on the exterior. Maybe some red steelies and little moons. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Aaaaaaand...uh....guys? Just think of lawyers as mechanics OK? You get in a jam... marriage broke down etc. You need a fix-up. We just know the codes for the the black boxes...how to troubleshoot...and the torque specs. Lots of us aren't rich. We don't all play golf. Some of us are car nuts. DP90 is the way to go if you want that old traditional look.
Don't worry. I am not going to change the paint for now. I just wanted to rev up the old guys. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

When I get ready to do some body mods that is when I will squirt her down with the black. That will allow me to do spot work without making the car look like it is under construction.

You know, I had one just like that in my younger days.

Only It was a 51 mor door lowered to the ground, original straight eight with dual pipes, just so I could hear em.
And It didn.t need no stinkin visor.
And, did I mention the fender skirts?
The wheels were painted RED.
Well only the part that showed around the hub caps.
By the way, Howdy!

Hey Justice, I have a question for ya. This isn't meant to be a slam or anything, just a question I've asked myself lots of times before. You bought this car pretty much the way it sits. It's a finished running car. If you want to chop it, redo the interior, change the paint, ect. ect. ect. why did you buy this car? You must have liked something about it. Why spend all the money on a finished car, when you could have bought an unrestored stocker for a lot less money? Changing wheels, or some minor things I can see, but the whole car! That car is trying to be to many things at once. Street machine wheels, van interior, custom body and paint, then painted bumpers. It doesn't fit any era, except maybe the 70's. If it was mine, I would just change the wheels, lower it and drive it. Or sell it as is, and start over. That's just my opion, Dean http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

welcome!
interesting what the previous owner did, if you chop the top
please post some progress pics...I'm very curious about that

justice
09-15-2003, 06:24 AM
Dean,

No offense taken. You make a good point.
I thought the car looked pretty cool minus the wheels when I bought it.
The interior is a retro look from the 70's that I wasn't too crazy about, but I figured I could live with it for a little bit.
I got a real good deal on the car as the previous owner had passed away.
I really enjoy working on my vehicles. As a result, I could not imagine keeping one and leaving it alone. I am always changing something.
The car is actually for sale right now. I will probably not get the chance to do everything I listed to it before it is gone.
However, You gotta remember. There are no rules in hot rodding. Maybe I'll raise the roof and put some BBS rims on it off of a BMW....lol
Short version: Thanks for the thoughts. I agree with you. That is why I have it up for sale. However, if it doesn't sell, I am gonna go to work on it.

Looks pretty good Justice. A newbie welcome to you. Wide whites & some bad ass'd caddie hubcaps w/ bullets would be killer. Other than that, I'd drive the thing and enjoy it. If you want to chop the top, change colors, etc. why not just sell it and start on a stocker? But hey, it's your car right? You do whatever the hell works for you man.

Again, welcome.
