Need Tools...sand/shot bag and mallets

OK...I posted this in the questions section, but was told I should repost for more response. I am looking for a supplier of sand/shot bags and wooden/plastic mallets for metal working. I know eastwood has them, but I am still looking for more options.

I'd say it depends on how you're going to use them, and what your budget is.

I have Eastwood's shot bag filled with (if I remember right) #9 lead shot. I think it takes about 100 lbs of lead to fill the bag, which is not only heavy, but pretty expensive. It's great to work with, though.

I also like the Eastwood bag's leather thickness and flexability. I also have a Covell bag, which I think is a little thick and stiff. Covell sends you a sample of building sand that he recommends you find locally and fill the bag with. The Eastwood bag has a velcro closure, and the Covell bag needs to be sewn closed.

If you're on a budget, you can get the same results with cheaper tools that aren't intended for metal working. Get creative. Someone here once recommended using a canvas bank coin bag instead of a tradition shot bag. Look for other banging stuff to replace hammers: meat tenderizers, dead blow hammers, wooden mallets, etc.

a good buddy of mine made a small shot bag out of a leather glove.. and boy did it work nice.. LOTS of guys are using PALLET wood to create hammer heads with a great deal of success..

I would also suggest finding a dealer for martin hammers rather than buying through eastwood... good luck

My shot bag is by wray schlean (SP) IT too needed "SEWN" but instead I just super glued it shut.. also I use SAND.. as I am scared of "LEAD DUST".. and sand is cheaper / free.

i had my little sister sew me up a leather bag recently.
i used my grandfathers old welding jacket from the forties,,, nice leater. my dad owns a foundry so insted of lead shot i used molding sand. the bag works deadly. now im on the hunt for some good hammers.

I got one from Danny and its top qaulity I got some really nice fine steel shot at Alco metals in SanLeandro for $1 a pound this stuff is great no lead dust either a little bigger than BB`s but oval shaped
