FUCK MAN,,
JOHNNY
R.I.P.

actually made me get goose bumps.
NO MORE NEEDS TO BE SAID.....

SEEING HIM a year ago, (not playing"
Told me it was coming....
he looked tired...

THANKS TO RICK RUBIN
for bringing JOHNNYS music BACK....

It hit me this morning, coming through the winding forest from santa cruz, leaving the TRUE ART guys PALACE..
I stayed with SNACKY last night.
we picked a night to party.
we partied out

in the early A.M. I hit the car hung over,
coming over the mountain, window down, SEA BREEZE, and a SMOKE,,,tuirned on the radio

COLLEGE station shows up.... I couldn't
figure out why it WAS ALL JOHNNY cash..???

I was excited,
what a fucking RIDE to work,, me and JOHNNY,, and some cigarettes..
and some fog from the OCEAN,,,, almost wished I could shut out the HEADLIGHTS and pull over to smoke some weed ........

then it hit me when the LADY spoke..
after about 4 songs,,

it was dark and GLOOMING,, you ever hit the SANTA CRUZ highway, you know what I mean,,

I WAS SPOOKED..

SAD DAY,,,

Just wanted to say that,,,

the station I listen to played them alot today but they were not too solem, they were honoring him in a cool way the afternoon dj stopped at tower records to pick up some more stuff to play on the air and everything felt good. I didnt let it get me down too much today but certain songs will hit me later.

when i was a little shit my pops always loved cash, had pics and autographs, we had to listen to him where ever we went, on 8 track,
when i was 11 yrs old i told my pops i didnt want to listen to cash any more, i didnt like him, that i wanted to listen to my new 8 track, the clash. he promptly gave me a severe tongue lashing, "where do you think those fuckers got the attitude they got, huh? johnny cash! doddamnit! and dont forget, your name was almost sue".
my pops drives a truck and he called me today from some where in texas just to remind me of the Sue thing, it made me fell real fuckin good.
rest now Mr. cash

"I walk the line" is one of my favorite songs. I grew up listening to him on the 8-track too.. him, loretta lynn, patsy cline, even some hank sr if I remember right. My old man was into the classic country, not that "modern country" stuff that was out in the late 70's early 80's.

Hell of a talent, hell of a voice. I'm glad he had some time to make some good songs. Seems like the really truely good ones live short lives... he seems to have cheated the odds and left us with a good bit of music to listen to.

The thing I liked the best about him, was that he seemed to be a musician that played country... not a country musician. He kinda made his own genre.

I had a whole profound paragraph written out...but then I thought, "who the fuck am I to analyze one of the greatest people of all time." Thank you Johnny Cash for the happiness you and your music have brought to me in the past and that it will bring for years to come. God Bless Johnny Cash

i've been sitting here all night listening to my albums and when those ran out, i moved to the musicmatch (tm) artist ON DEMAND (tm) and i just spent a little time with him...

earlier, i took that pic of him shooting the bird that was posted earlier (different post) and sent it to my friends... all i wrote was what i placed in the subject line:

"escape from folsom..."

i think that worked.

but hell i'm so drunk now, i've moved on to david allan coe... as any drunk man should do.

oh well, johnny's with june now... i know that's where he wants to be.

daddy sang bass, you know... and the circle will be unbroken.

My pops used to listen to a lot of Cash and Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys. I can remember rolling along in his hot rod f-100 listining to that stuff. My pops became a born again back in 1995 and all that stuff went into a box in the garage. He called me today to ask me if I remembered where that box was. That was the first time I smiled today.

AS I was reading through these posts, the only thing I could think about was the song that really turned me on to Johnny... Folsom Prison. Then the next thing that popped into my frail little brain was what Warpigg wrote...[ QUOTE ]

GG Allin crashing a Johnny Cash show? Somebody shoulda punched his fuckin' lights out...

I never thought Allin was anything more than an overrated performance artist, and he sure as hell didn't deserve to stand on the same stage as the Man in Black. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Point taken. If I'd been at the Cash show, though, I'da been pissed about Allin showing up. Just my opinion, that's all.

I was flying back from Conn via Wash DC when I seen it on the CNN news. Ran into JimA also there (he was heading to Rhinebeck NY for the show).. When I got home at midnight, I hoped in the ride, popped on one of his CD's and drove 3hrs thru the night to Charlotte to hit the swap meet there the next morning.. It was a good drive with some good music.. When I got into Charlotte's radio wave I picked up a station that was playing a long string of his tunes..

I always liked Cash, but the song that touched me the most was his last. And I still haven't figured out how he got hooked up with Reznor in the first place...

I've always been a fan... got it from my dad's albums... and I think the stuff he's done in the last 5 years or so said a lot about what kinda guy he was. Timeless. He had a whole new generation of fans - true 'legend' stuff.

My favorite Cash-centric experience was in '95 or so... caught Social Distortion in Houston, and at the end of the set Ness gave a cool speech about punk not bein' anything new... been around since the 50's, and the punks of today ain't shit compared to the original badasses. Then they went into their version of 'Ring of Fire'.

Awesome tribute to The Man in Black.

I never considered myself a country music fan, but then again Johnny Cash was never your average country. He was and is among a very small group of people that could cross all lines and touch the depths of all our soles. When he sang you knew who it was and he could sing THREE BLIND MICE and make you stand up and take notice! His passing is our loss.

Damn I woke up and saw his obituary online. 09/12 is my birthday, two years ago I get the stigma of idiots flying planes into buildings the day before my birthday, now I share a day with The Man In Blacks day of passing.

I don't need anymore tragedy on my birthday or anywhere near it.

I am starting to get really really angry.

I hope Mr. Cash passed on in a painless way. May he rest in everlasting peace.

LET THE TRAIN BLOW THE WHISTLE

I don't want no aggravation When my train has left the station If you're there or not, I may not even know Have a round and remember Things we did that weren't so tender Let the train blow the whistle when I go

On my guitar sell tickets So someone can finally pick it And tell the girls down at the Ritz I said hello Tell the gossipers and liars I will see them in the fire Let the train blow the whistle when I go

Let her blow, let her blow Long and loud and hard and happy Let her blow No regrets, all my debts will be paid When I get laid Let her blow, let her blow, let her blow

You'll be left without excuses For the evils and abuses Down to today from years and years ago And have yourself another toke From my basket full of smoke And let the train blow the whistle when I go

Let her blow, let her blow Long and loud and hard and happy Let her blow No regrets, all my debts will be paid When I get laid Let her blow, let her blow, let her blow

To all it may concern, this is his daughter Kathy's post on the Johnny Cash forum that I've been reading for the last few weeks. She is one of the moderators:

I can't imagine a world without Dad, one day has been horrible.

I want you all to know that your love, support and prayers are appreciated SO MUCH.

I can only leave you with this....
Dad was NOT in pain, went peacefully and quickly.

God bless his heart and God bless you.

And as a side note, not that I'm badmouthing John Ritter, but how is his death getting more news time than JRC? I don't get it. How many kids grow up thinking, "I want to be the next Jack Tripper?" NONE. How many people have been touched by Cash's life? Millions.
Fox News and CNN can do the math.

sadly it is the state of the media... they did the math, that's what drives their advertising revenue... if it is dominating the airwaves, you can bet some bean counter asked "the audience" what they wanted to see... i'm sure it is not a slight to Johnny, it is probably that Ritter's was more unexpected.

Snacky, it is johnnycash.com then go to the forum icon. There have been about a thousand new members in the last 2 days, people all over the world stopping in to pay thier respects. The site was down from about 2am until 6 Pm on Friday, someone said they had to change servers because they got close to 10 million hits in the first hour or so after his death.

As for Jack Tripper's situation,
Yeah, but Jack couldn't DO anything about his "situation" because if the wacky landlord found out he wasn't gay he'd have been booted. He might as well have been a "Bosom Buddy." And besides the two that he lived with, how about the tail he was always dating? Not too bad, for a "gay" chef.
Like I said before, nothing against Mr. Ritter.
