View Full Version : AAA What membership type do you have?
I was looking it over and it seems that the AAA Plus is the way to go for me. I know quite a few HAMBers are AAA menbers,. I'm just wondering which you chose.

I have the Good Sam's Club Zeke. I know it's a little different but I am sure AAA is behind it. They cover my heap of a motorhome, all my cars and trailers as well. I shudder at the cost of towing a Class A motorhome 50 miles...it's cheap insurance.
You're talkin about the Auto Club, right ?
I allways suggest to my customer's that they buy the extra membership that entitles them to a 100 mile free tow. The basic membership only gets you a free 5 mile tow, which does not get you to any repair shop (generally.....).

<font color="green"> Ric is right,
I have the 5 mile tow and when I BLEW the tranny in the 41 I was 10 miles from home.
It still only cost a little over $6.00.
I keep meaning to up it to the 100 miles, but, alas.
My mom seized up the motor in her van and they towed it on my account, no charge.
One thing else, when I got the 41 home, that guy slid it right into the middle of the garage AND helped me put it on jack stands.
I was gonna talk hime into dropping the tranny for me when he got another call http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
I didn't even have to ask!

Up here we have the CAA (same as AAA, just the Canadian version)
Just got my 35 year member sticker.
In addition to the basic we (wife and I) have the extended coverage, (additional $20)
longer towing distances, hotel and living expenses if disabled on the road.
PLUS the 365 / 24 Medical coverage. It pays for emergency transportation home, and medical expenses in other countries. I have used it once; the expenses that "piled up" that one time, versus what I pay for coverage, have yet to come even CLOSE! The expense of the medical treatment and the transportation home ran over $60,000.00!! (small peanuts now days!)
The extra medical coverage costs $30.00 a year!
Do I recommend it? HELL YES!!

Just a thought, you can always look at towing insurance as part of your auto coverage. I have it on all my cars and it doesn't cost very much. All I have to do is pay for the tow then submit the receipt and they reimburse me for the cost. AAA around here is very slow service (1-2 hour wait) compared to all the other tow services (30 minutes on average). Just my .02

The AAA Plus has saved my ass numerous times...!!
100 miles is very helpful, and most times if it's a
little bit over 100 miles, the driver will let it slide...
esp. if you are driving and b.s.ing with him the whole way
and offer to stop and pick up cold drinks on a hot day..!
at about $70 or so a year,
it's worth the 4(I think it is) calls you are allowed...
run out of gas, locked out, or a tow...AAA rules..!!

AAA Plus for me and the wife, they haul anything, registered or not.
We have Geico for family car insurance and they also have a free tow policy but cars must be insured with them and distance is limited.

Zeke,
Triple A Plus is what we have and you can use it for any car up to I think for times a year for tow. I have had my moms car towed twice when it broke down with electrical, I just had to drive out to where she was at and be with the persons car getting towed. And we have used the unlock a couple of times for Jens friends. Oh yea, and they will change your tires for you to. I could not get my tire off my Farm truck once stuck in the back country and I got on the cell phone and the local guy came out and struggled and tugged and got the eight lugs off.
Ask BobBleed about the tow while they were on tour...

I have AAA Plus RV, whatever that is...it's like $80 a year, and 100 miles of towing (versus the standard 10)
Only one tow would pay for itself, and with all my old shit, it's worth it.

I have AAA Plus, also.
Saved Outlaw's butt last year at Paso. He had wheel bearing issues. We called AAA with my card and they towed his car to Lee Pratt's so it cound be fixed in the morning. Worked out real well.
I've been amazed that they don't charge extra when I get a flatbed for the coupe. I've used it a couple of times in non emergency situations. As long as the driver is cool, it's not a problem.

I have the standard AAA plan. I got it two weeks before my ride decide to take a dump on me. I was not far from home but when the car was towed it went across county lines. this added cost which would have been incured if I had the AAA Plus plan. So based on my own gayness I would go with AAA Plus for my car and AA Plus Plus for me...

AAA plus here also, I think it is about $80 now for a year. It is the only money that I hope is wasted every year!
I've had to use it a few times and I'm glad I've had it. I think you need to be a regular AAA member for one year before you can get AAA plus, though.

I drive a Tow Truck for a AAA contract station, AAA Plus is the only way to go. There is nothing I like more than a loooooong tow, it's easy money and I get to get the hell out of Fresno for a while. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

So, what do you get with AAA Plus that you don't get with regular AAA?
I have the standard membership, and have since 1987. It's $33 cheaper than the Plus service, which means I've saved something like $561 over the past 17 years. That pays for a LOT of tows over 10 miles...

With the standard membership you only get 5 miles, with the plus membership you get 100 miles. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

TEll you the truth, I gave up AAA's when they enacted the policy of no longer supporting well established businesses. Case in point, local motel been in business for something like over 50 years, AAA certified for a long time, really kept that old aura about it - neon, old Lincoln Highway feel, but offered modern services. WHen AAA "restructured" itself, it implemented policy saying that modern services weren't enough. All certified motels must revamp and have modern appearance and system as well. Number one the cost to do so would have put this motel in question out of business, not to mention ruined a pretty cool establishment. They approached AAA, but could get nowhere, ended up giving up AAA status. Fortunately it didn't hurt them. I've heard stories though of many, many places not fairing so well.
But honestly for roadside service its worked into my State Farm policy.

Regular AAA as i only use it as a safeguard while i'm over for 2-3 weeks a year, the maps are useful too & some of the discounts.

AAA+ rules.
If you do a search you can read about when our band van broke down 175 miles from our show. We called AAA a driver came and towerd us 100 miles and dropped us at a truck stop. Then we called again and another driver came and towed us the rest of the way. The whole time our bass player hid in the van.....
That was funny.

I've got the AAA gold member ship. 100 free miles towing. This was about 10 years ago.I use to get towed home for college each about three time a year. Cincinnati was the half way mark and the black hole for my trip home Louisville KY and to school in Columbus OH. I lost brakes, rear wheel bearings, alternaters, starters, etc... in cincy. I used the hell out of it. and still got it now. later
