The weather has been great the past 2 days,so I did some shop stuff. It's got a long way to go,but here is my 27's steering wheel. The loop is 3/4 solid stock that My father and I bent in his blacksmith shop.I hope to do real car build stuff soon on one of my messes.

I like the simplicity of the design, very clean.

but I have to wonder about temperatures, like when it's sub zero, or pushing a hundred?

or if you get in a fender bender and give it a little kiss?

You wouldn't bend the rim,but I think the 3 spokes would bend in a crash.

I was thinking the same thing Unkl Ian but,

A properly ergonomically located wheel invariably has the rim positioned so that if the driver were to lean forward it would line up with the area between his (or her) nose and chin.

I have seen the results of this in friends, acquaintances and have experienced this first hand myself.

I was lucky and only needed stitches to put my lip back together but have seen more than one toothless smile caused by even relatively minor accidents.

The most obvious solution would be to retrofit the older vehicle with a shoulder restraint.

I do like the design; it has an Art Deco/Southwestern look to it.

Not unlike a three spoke Hopi? design similar to the New Mexico State flag.

Hey, sounds good. Maybe you could slip some airbags in there too, and a collapsible column, and a side airbag, and dash padding, and a crumple zone, and proximity warning radars, a big black bumper and.. and......

Or maybe you could leave it as a HAMB hot rod and let nature take its course http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

You regard a simple setbeat as overkill safety wise?

Interesting!
