If there going to be black, they might show up better. If a bright or light, my 2cents is no - but to each their own

MoFoMOD and Paul, I've never seen either of those cars here before. Cool rides.

Eyeball's is always a stunner.

Paul, I think I agree. The trim rings and caps would help set them off. What's another $200 right? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I think rings make a huge difference with black tires on black wheels. Black wheels look great on a black car, but I wouldn't use them on most other colors.

Damn 50Fraud that truck rocks! You got any more pics?

That's the one Keith Tardel built isn't it?

I'm with you, the rings and caps are killer.

Thanks, Harrison. Yes, it's Keith's work. Here's the front, shortly before final assembly...

Tony -- Did you get my PM about my conversation with Tom Medley? BTW, the truck looks great out in the world! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Another Keith Tardel car in work years ago, and the black/black KH/tire combo. The trim ring pulls it all together, adds eye candy, and avoids looking a bit agricultural.

Great shot AV8. You put into words what I was thinking - and couldn't find the words.

I've got my answer but feel free to post more.

Thanks, JH

AV8 -- I did get your PM, and sent one in return thanking you for facilitating the conversation with Tom. I'll call him this week. Sorry if the PM didn't reach you, and thanks again!

The black Kelseys with black tires, caps and rings seems to be Keith's signature combination, as he's used it on Todd Walling's roadster, Flip's '33 coupe, and my truck -- maybe others. I hesitate to use words like "formal" or "elegant" about hot rods, but that's how they look to me on a black-painted car -- sorta dressy. I think they are too understated for bright colored cars (red, blue, yellow) which look better with more contrast in the wheels.

Didn't get a PM response, Tony, but the important thing is you're gonna hook up with Tom. Tom is a national treasure, but there's no convincing him of that.

I think elegant is a perfectly acceptable term for the black-on-black K-H wheel/tire combination. Indeed, that's what it is.

I agree that it's not a wheel/tire scheme that translates to other body colors, but it's very special on a black car.

What size would look right on a 16" wheel for a 36 Ford pickup with full fenders?

I know what 15" sizes look right in a bias but the 16" are a little harder to gauge for me.
I thought about going that route rather than the 15's but tire sizes seem to be a little more limited.

Don Schumacher has the best looking '35 pickup on the planet, and he runs 550/750 blackwalls. Looks great (see TRJ#16).

I have 600/700 WWW on my '36 coupe. I painted out the raised rib on the rear whitewall, to make it narrower and in better proportion to the fronts. The front tires look too big, but I haven't found a smaller 16" tire with a wide whitewall.

My '34 truck, pictured in this thread, is on 450/475 front, 700 rear. I think the 450s look neat, but it's a really little tire.

If blackwalls are OK for you, follow Don's example. For whitewalls, I think you're screwed.

Heres a pic of my roadster with my 15" Riemer Wires.Riemer is an ol'hotrodder machinist outa Vancouver BC.He took '35 wires, cut the rims off and would weld on 15"rims.These wheels used to be my dads best buddys when I was a kid.A friend found em a while ago and we put em on my car.Not many of these around any more. Its funny watchin people do a doubletake when they see em......Shiny http://photo.starblvd.net/~29EHV8/1-5-1.jpg

Have any pics of the 35? I do't have TRJ 16. Is it black?

Yes, that's Don's. The pictures in TRJ are much better, but here's a side view that shows the tire sizes pretty well. Sorry I don't know whose picture this is; I think I found it on the net.
