So I'm at the Puyallup swap meet a couple weeks ago. I sold my '60 Tbird and the new project cash is burning a hole in my pocket. Meanwhile, my beautiful wife is clamoring for me to come look at this '57 Pontiac. I walked past it at least 3 or 4 times because it's a more-door. She points out it's a more-door hardtop and look at the cherry interior! She sits in it, giddiness ensues, and I start to look it over. Long story short, it was the day after Valentine's day and I hadn't given her a present, yet. Too convenient?

Here are some more pics. It's a 55,000 mile, original owner car. It sat in front of a service station for a couple decades. We have plans to just make it pretty, ie., iron out some minor dings, new paint (yes pink, I mean coral, and white!), dropped spindles up front, blocks out back, some full hubcaps, and dual Smithy's for the sweet-running 347 backed by a hydromatic. Should look good towing a slingshot dragster someday, huh?(Poppa needs his hot rod, too). http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

What a nice piece. I've often wondered what that color would look like with some pearl over it. I'd have to experiment a little. I've owned 4, 1957 Pontiacs and the best color I ever had was a white over dark silver super chief 2 door hardtop. Had a couple tu-tone blue cars, one with dark blue on top and one with light blue on top. And one blue and white 2 door sedan. They look excellent with a good slam. Fatman sells the dropped spindle uprights.

Thanks for the compliment, Rocky. I just had the original starter rebuilt for it and that set me back some. The car is so original that I don't want to do anything that can't be put back to stock. Sheesh, I must be getting old. A good slam is in order, though. My wife is still on cloud nine. She drove it around the block the other night and Johnny Cash's "Folsom prison blues" came on the original radio. She said it felt like a time warp. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

To be honest, I prefer the 4-dr hardtop's roofline over the 2dr ones when it comes to 55-57 GM cars. Better shapes at the rear of the top, better rear window shape... it's heavier, matching the thickness of the car. Really good looking poncho...

hammy that is awesome. Like Rocky said, the dropped front spindle uprights are an afternoon bolt in job if you wanted to keep it as stock as possible. (wheel alignment extra in some states. tax not included) Couple that with some wide whites on chrome 5-spokes... and lowering blocks in the rear. You have a real sweet piece to start with, you won't have to bolt on much. Good Luck!

Thanks, guys. Hey Ponchobilly, I don't know if my wife would go for the five-spokes on www's. She really likes the hubcap look. But we are moving to the east coast this month (Connecticut). So maybe an east coast look is in order. Whaddya think, radirs or torq-thrusts? Anybody photoshop this ol' girl with a slam and some wheels?

Finally! Someone buys a car that I can honestly say "I had one just like that"
It was while I lived in Wichata, Ks during 1964 to 1968. I bought it for $695.00 and drove it until the old hydro quit on me.
That was in 1967, Then I traded it.

Good find, happy for you and your wife, she has good taste.
