Hey guys,

I am doing a complete brake job on the '51 this weekend. I am going to redo the bearings while I am there.

Here is the stupid question: Can I use disk brake grease on the drum brake spindles/bearings? I know you CAN'T use drum brake grease on disks, but can you go the other way? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif I have a whole tub of disk grease from my dailys and no regular grease.

Thanks,
TDC

I don't want you to die if I am wrong, so please verify this. . .

I have used it with the assumption that it is formulated for a higher operating temperature so it should be o.k.

and I have not died . . .yet.

Thanks! I will tell my wife to sue you if I die! J/K http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

And thanks to the LURKER who emailed me with the same response!

After tomarrow, it should stop on a dime! (Or at least a dollar http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif)

Yes - ok to use the disc brake grease. Better formulation

'51 what? If it has ball bearings...the "new" grease may not stay in the bearings...I had some problems with this on my '52 chevy. Even with new grease seals, it would eventually work it's way out onto the brakes. The service manual specifies "use short fiber bearing grease only". Try finding some of that these days....!

'51 what?

It is a '51 Ford. Just to be safe I will go buy another tub of drum brake grease. I can't see how it would ooze out anymore than drum brake stuff, cuz this sh*t is sticky as hell and thick too. But Yorg has never steered me wrong yet, (not that you other guys have http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif)

Out to do the brakes,

it's only right that other people should benefit from my previous stupidity http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Yorg, i know this is an old thread, but in your olds, do you use just any old drum brake grease on the front bearings? Or do you use the stuff with fiber?? Do you have a good source for front wheel bearings??
