old junkyards

you are going to see most of the old junkyards gone in the next couple years.most of the cool yards are gone.replaced by strip malls around here.zoning forces them out.youve got elected people trying to junk old cars .even though its a billion dollar bisness that keeps a lot of people employed in the old car and hot rod field.so now if i find any old junkyard i'll post it here.if they make money then hopefully they will be around longer

Thats the problem these days, the government keeps trying to take our cars away by pushing these crusher bills. When they get shot down by people lobbying for us to keep our cars, they start with these ordinances saying you can't keep an x amount of cars on your property or these junkyards are an eyesore. I bought a book (Barnes and Noble ordered it for me) called Ray's Wrecking Yard Roster. It is by Ray and Ruth Harvey. It separates out yards by both states and make. I have found it to be invaluable. I was able to locate some trim for the Hudson that I had been looking for for over 3 years after I got the book.

It wasn't much, maybe 15 bucks or so...

I don’t post often, read daily though. Just a suggestion…

Not sure what the difficulties are in getting cars into the US from Canada but Manitoba and Saskatchewan have a lot of rural yards that are pretty much unaffected by zoning laws. Plus your dollar buys more http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif. I personally get parts for my Merc from a local Ford yard and from Yellowknife… and that’s near Alaska…but whatever works.

Check out my site for the tin farm. http://groups.msn.com/goldenoldiesvintagetin I have about 50 cars out there, but the owner, a friend of mine, has about 500-600. This is not a junk yard per se but a collection that got out of hand. The stuff is for sale as the owner is 75 now and wants to start whittling it down. No 32-34 stuff and no converts or rare pieces. Also a little slim now on A and T stuff. The ford stuff sells fast. He is well known in western Canada. Lots of stuff for 20's to 60's though. He doesn't want to be bothered by hundreds of phone calls as this isn't a business. I still haul in any fords or mercs I find so the selection in my stuff is always changing. Bob doesn't haul in any more stuff. He has enuff. This stuff may only exist for another 5 or so years depending on his health.

think a junkyard listing would be a good thing.if i see stuff i.ll post it.like the mid 40s hudson behind the gas stop in hyde park.i'll snap some pics.like i said people dont realize the money that goes into the economy from old cars.just thumb thought hemmings.a lot of sevices employing lots of people.
